Hi, I have an old acer laptop and my wife communicates with me on it using broadband and a router with a usb pick up. I have returned home and have a new acer laptop with wireless LAN already installed. It has a Wireless LAN Disabled / Enabled switch on it. When I connect this new laptop tp our broadband with the cable we get internet fine, but we cannot seem to get the internet through wireless. This new laptop has been used before for wireless while I was away so it is set up okay for it. Please help, Thankyou Gordon

Youe broadband router is working ok with the broadband cable. So it is configured with the broadband cable. Now,to work with the wireless internet, you have to configured the wi-fi router to work internet. You can see the wi-fi connection but unless & untill you will configure wi-fi router it must not work or if before it was working with the wi-fi then you can check the wi-fi router setting because it might change by mistake.Surely it will work after configurating wi-fi router.

How to connect my Acer Extensa 367T wirelessly

You can use your USB port to install a wireless "stick" i call it or it should have a built in wireless modem. Take it to you to Best Buy or Staples and they will have what you need especially if you already have wireless service coming into your home. God Bless and Best of Luck!!

I have a Toshiba Satellite L305D-S5934 notebook with Windows Vista Home Premium. I use Verizon wireless broadband to access the Internet. I can connect to the internet using their USB modems just fine, but...

3.If you found any question mark with yellow colour >> right click on it >>> update driver
4.toshiba has application built in called zero configuration >>> open it, and try setting something matched with are you looking for ( sometimes the program stuck on something else network adapter eg. LAN cord or built in Wifi

I have a compaq laptop which i've had for a year or so. My laptop connects fine with every other internet broadband but not our new home one, and every other laptop in the house connects to this internet...

Compaq Presario V6000T now retired at HP (zero support)
ok its old. 12 long years old now!@!!
first learn that old laptops do not have modern wifi chips.
like other PCs have, a fact.
the answer is Encryption modes.
WEP , WPA or WPA2.
in my home we have WPA2 ONLY AT THE ROUTER.
for security reasons and no old laptop works with WPA2
then learn other homes running old gear, routers.
have WEP on only
and most new PC have that disabled, or gone now.
WEP is net secure now at all so is gone.

now lets answer you in more basic forum
why not learn to setup the PC and your router the correct way.
if your PC only does WEP/WPA (look does it?)
then
in the router, turn that on. if using wep turn it on, and know that you homes router can be hacked easy.
if you have WPA, turn that on, and use only that if the PC can not use WPA2. use WPA for sure, at LEAST.
turn off TKIP (use AES mode) too,.

im reading your PC spec now.
what wifi?
it has 802.11b/g
in most cases we must find out what wifi chip is there.
and what OS you run, you never said windows what?
then get the newest driver for that wifi chip.
some are not available.
finding the chip true name is not easy.
I can but I have powerful scanners.
the cure is , use the unsafe protocol
or upgrade the driver,
or buy wifi dongle USB (new) and use it. easy and cheap.
use WPA2 only. if wise.

next time post what OS you have
nobody can match working drivers lacking that key fact
is this stinking XP the DEAD OS? or vista? it too is now dead.

Router connection problem

you will not see your router in any of the places you looked.
Easiest method:
Shutdown your PC and laptops. Unplug the power from the router and the cable modem.
Wait 30 sec. then plug in the power to the cable modem, wait 30 sec. then plug the power to the router. Wait till you have "Internet" light then restart your PC and laptops. The PC and laptops should pick up an IP address and you should be able to get on-line. This is if you have a cable service provider.

Do i need the cables for the router?

To go Wireless on your desktop Acer Aspire L3600, you should consider buying an USB Wireless Adapter. It could be any brand as long have same frequency with your Netgear (i.e 2.4 Ghz/5.8 Ghz)

Compaq armada v300

If you have a router on your broadband, you need a RJ45 network cable - right next to the modem port on your laptop is a network port - this will use the correct cables you need to connect to your router.

If you don't have a router but only a broadband modem, just connect it to the USB port on your laptop, install the software and you should be good to go.

USB Broadband to wireless router through desktop PC

If I get you right you are useing a 3g Internet connection and have a router wich conets the 2 computers together, the problem is that you can't share the internet connection.
Without any information about the operateing systems I can tell you the idea:
First you need to disable DHCP server on the router and use static IP addresses on both PC, the IP address should be something like

PC1:
IP: 192.168.0.2
Network mask:255.255.255.0

PC2:
IP: 192.168.0.3
Network mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.0.2

In this IP configuration above PC1 has the 3g modem connected.
This was the easy part, hard part is to share the internet connection on the network, that's a little different ritual on every operateing system, try to use google to get your specific one.

However there's a much more easier way to solve all your problems if you can't make it work, but it costs money. All you need to buy is a 3G router and that will do the same thing for you what your old router did.
I did a little search for you on Australian Ebay to see what you can get.
But I'm sure you have your own cheapbfavourite source of computer hardware as well.

Hope this will help you sorting out your porblem.

Imre

Use of router in network

Try reset the router & cable modem. There ia a reset (very small) button on the back of the wireless router & the modem. Disconnect the power cords to both. Use a pen & hold in for 10 seconds (router & modem). Re-connect power (router & modem) & restart PC. If your service still has not returned. Chances are it's your internet provider & not you. Double check by connecting your modem directly to your PC.

Luck!
Mike
