What is the best way to set up sonar for best results. there are so many different settings, its kind of confusing. also my unit looses contact with the depth reading and starts flashing weird numbers, it does it more than what it actually works correctly.
also is there some kind of video that you can watch, that actually shows a professional setting up and explaining how to set up a unit. i have a lowrance x135
Where do you use your boat?
There are so many variables it's hard to fit it all here, but there are some excellent tutorials on the Lowrance website. The most important thing is to pick the right frequency, for the depth of the water. (200khz for less than 70', and 50 khz for greater depths). Depending on how serious you are about fishing, there are a lot of extras that you may never use. The key is to figure out which features will help you the most and forget about the rest.

It's common for SONAR to lose contact with the bottom at high speeds. The better the transducer installation, the faster you can go. Turbulence and bubbles will cause the SONAR to drop out. Lowrance's transducer installation guide explains it very clearly.
