Xbox 360 hdmi connection to dell W3201C no display

Received the xbox 360 package--60gb H/D; head set, extra controller----a few weeks ago. I have a Dell 32" HDTV, model # W3201C. When I hook up via HDMI, no signal, however, the hdmi input shows BOLD, which means it does see something connected. When I use the component cables, it works fine, when I hook up to a newer HDMI Samsung, it works fine, so it's not the XBox, or the cable. It's something with my TV. Dell is no help. the TV is over a year old and I think it's 1080i, and I believe the xbox is 1080p? Could that be the problem? I have run HD from cable on the TV, so I know the connection works, but it just won't find the xbox. I've tried to go into the TV set up to see if I can change the settings, but I I don't see where to change the resolution. Not an expert on this, but usually know enough to take care of my humble set ups. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi,

having similar problems here. The console powers up, the disks come to life; it sounds like it's working. The cables and console are less than a month old too, so I'm kinda dissapointed by the quality, as up until now it worked without a hitch.

I'm trying to confirm whether this is a connection issue that is causing the HD TV to not display properly, although this would not explain why it worked before now :P

these things seem to have an iffy reputation (360 elites) should I claim my warranty?

The W3201c IS 720P. You have to adjust the display output on the xbox 360 to 480p then adjust settings up from there...

How do I hook up Xbox 360 to the HDTV

Step 1:

Connect the audio/video input of the component cable into the "A/V" port located on the back of the xbox 360

Step 2:

Match the red, blue and green cables on the other end of the component cable to the corresponding component ports on your HDTV. If your HDTV has more than one set of component inputs, make note of which one you use.

Step 3:

Slide the switch on the component cable to "HDTV."

Step 4:

Turn on your HDTV. Set the video mode to the component port that will be used. HDTVs with multiple component ports will usually be labeled "Component 1," "Component 2" and so on

Step 5:

Turn on the Xbox 360. Go to "My Xbox." Select "System Settings" then "Console Settings" then "Display" and then "HDTV Settings." Choose the display setting (720p, 1080i and 1080p) that is best compatible with your HDTV. If you're not sure, try them all until you find the one that looks best.

Step 6:

Disconnect any previously connected A/V or component cables.

Step 7:

Connect the HDMI AV cable connector to the "HDMI AV" port on the Xbox 360.

Step 8:

Connect the other end to an available HDMI port on your HDTV. If your HDTV has more than one HDMI input, make note of which one you use.

Step 9:

Turn on your HDTV. Set the video mode to the HDMI port that will be used. HDTVs with multiple component ports will usually label them "HDMI 1," "HDMI 2" and so on.

Step 10:

Turn on the Xbox 360. Go to "My Xbox." Select "System Settings" then "Console Settings" then "Display" and then "HDTV Settings." Pick the display setting (720p, 1080i and 1080p) that looks best on your HDTV.

No video have sound when using component connection on my xbox 360 hdmi ok. help

Your resolution settings on the xbox are too high for your currently used cables or tv. To reset your console's resolution follow these steps: To reset Xbox 360 console display settings
  1. If there is a disc in the console, remove it.
  2. Turn off the console.
  3. Turn on the console by using your controller (its best to have the controller plugged into the console rather than just using the wireless). To do this, press and hold the controller's Xbox Guide button until your console turns on.
  4. While the console is starting, press and hold the Y button and pull the right trigger at the same time. Continue holding the buttons when you see the Xbox 360 logo.
  5. The console will restart and you will see the Xbox 360 logo again.
The console's display settings are now reset to the defaults.

I'm trying to set up my Onkyo HT-r380 receiver (which came in the HT-S330 home theater system). I can get AM and FM radio to play on all the speakers. I can not get sound from my XBOX 360. The 360 is...

I looked at the manual and they provided the following settings.

To listen to audio received by the HDMI IN jacks through your TV's speakers:
  • Set the "TV Control" setting to "On" (? 37) for an p-compatible TV.
  • Set the "Audio TV OUT" setting to "On" (? 36) when the TV is not compatible with p or the "TV Control" setting to "Off".
  • Set your Blu-ray Disc/DVD player's HDMI audio output setting to PCM.
  • To listen to TV audio through the AV receiver, see "Connecting External Components" (? 17).

Cannont connect Ear Force X3 with my HDMI set up .

Is the problem that you're using a single HDMI cable to connect your Xbox to your TV? If so, this Turtle Beach article should help... ________________________________________
HDMI and Connecting Ear Force Xbox Headphones
The current Microsoft Xbox 360 series of gaming consoles allow the use of HDMI cables for simpler hookup to home theater systems and Hi-Definition televisions (HDTV).
The Xbox 360 Elite (the black one) comes with two additional cables, an HDMI cable and a separate AUDIO cable that provides a pair of RCA jacks (red and white) and an optical digital audio output (S/PDIF Out). With this cable package, you can easily connect any of our X-series headsets and an HDMI-connected television at the same time.
This Xbox 360 HDMI Cable package is available as an extra-cost option from Microsoft: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x/xbox360hdmiavcable/
Here's a more in-depth explanation of the Xbox 360 HDMI Cable and how it works: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/937899?sd=xbox
[NOTE 1:] The standard Xbox models do not come equipped with this cable set. The HD cable they have obscures the HDMI connector, so that the two sockets cannot be used at the same time. If you only have this stock HD connector (component video, composite video, stereo analog audio and optical digital audio connectors), then you will not be able to use the HDMI connector at the same time.
In order to use both sockets at the same time (HDMI and A/V) you'll need to purchase the Xbox 360 HDMI Cable package described above.
[NOTE 2:] The current Xbox 360 Elite Holiday Edition (Fall 2009) does not come with the HDMI Cable set.
___________________________________________________________________
Some companies make aftermarket HDMI cables for use with the Xbox 360, but these may not provide the dual RCA jacks that carry the 2- channel analog audio necessary for hookup of the anlog-only Ear Force X-series headsets. If this is what you have, you may need to find another way to connect your Ear Force X-series headset.
The TOSLINK digitally-connected X-series headsets can be always be connected using optical digital "Toslink" connections (and that's the best way to use them!).
___________________________________________________________________
The oldest white-and-gray Xbox 360 models DO NOT have an HDMI port. With this particular (obsolete) model, you cannot use HDMI connections, but you can use any of our X-series headsets.
Current Xbox 360 models all have separate HDMI and A/V ports ("sockets") on their back panels.
___________________________________________________________________
Here are some suggestions for alternative connection schemes:
XBOX 360 AUDIO PLAYS THROUGH TELEVISION SET:
For X4 and X41: Your best bet would be to connect the Xbox optical digital audio out to the X4 transmitter's optical digital input. Then connect the X4 optical digital output to the optical digital audio input on your HDTV or home theater amplifier.
[NOTE:] Some HDTV systems have an optical digital audio output that will not transmit Dolby Digital/DTS encoded digital audio, only stereo PCM audio will be passed. In this case, you must connect as above.
For X2, X3 and X31: You can use the Headphones jack or the Audio Out jacks on your TV to connect to the Audio In jack on the Transmitter.
For X1 and X11: You can use the Headphones jack or the Audio Out jacks on your TV (if available) to connect to the headset's analog Audio Input.

NOTE: Please make sure your TV has Audio Out jacks. Some TV's only have Audio In jacks.
Audio In jacks only accept incoming audio signal; they do not send audio signal out. If no audio signal is being sent to the headset, no sound will play from the headset.
___________________________________________________________________
You may need to purchase a suitable adapter cable in order to connect the TV audio output(s) to the Ear Force X-series headset's transmitter or Audio Input plug.
- Connect the HDMI cable so that the Xbox 360 plays its audio through the TV.
- For X1, adjust the Dashboard > Settings > System > Voice in the Xbox 360 so that the talkback and game sounds are played together (Play Through Speakers). - For X3, X31, X4 and X41, you should set this to Play Through Headset.
__________________________________________________________________
XBOX 360 AUDIO PLAYS THROUGH HOME THEATER RECEIVER (except X4 and X41): This is exactly the same as the above, except that you will use the receiver's Headphones output jack to connect to the Audio In on the Ear Force Xbox-compatible headset's Transmitter (X2, X3, X31) or the green Audio Input plug (X1).
- You may need to obtain a shielded audio cable with 1/4" stereo phone plug to 1/8" stereo mini-phone plug ends. The 1/4" phone plug goes to the receiver's Headphones jack, while the 1/8" mini-phone plug goes to the Audio In on the Ear Force Transmit- ter (X2, X3, X31) or Audio Input plug (X1).
- Adjust the Dashboard > Personal Settings in the Xbox 360 so that the talkback and game sounds are played together (Play Through Both). For X3 and X31, you may also set this to Play Through Headset.
