Reboot just as op sys starts -never gets into it

Tried to start system from a couple of Linux cd's. Will get to boot options point, (eg, try it, install, etc), Then when asked, starts the boot but reboots, never getting to the op sys. CD drive and discs OK, PSU Ok, (there is no HDD -I'm using Puppy linux to see if I can get it to go and that does not need a hdd). I am wondering about ram?

IT DOSENT MATTER WHICH O/S U R USING. THE CD MUST BE BOOTED FROM THE CD DRIVE. JUST CHECK YOUR CD DRIVER. IT MUST BE NOT WORKING PROPERLY.

PERIODICALLY EVERY CD DRIVERS NEEDS SERVICE, LIKE LANCE CLEANUP AND BELT SETTINGS.

JUST SERVICE YOUR CD DRIVER OR CHANGE IT WITH A NEW ONE.

SOURCE: Recurring Reboot

1. Try to start it in Safe Mode and run antivirus and see if it can be fixed.
2. If it doesn't, I am afraid you may have to reinstall.

Thanks,

In your BIOS, do you have the First Boot Device set for the CD-ROM drive? The message NTLDR is missing, press any key to restart, means your PC is trying to boot from the Hard Drive. Check your BIOS and configure the First Boot Device for the CD-ROM drive. Then try booting from the XP CD again. You may have to press a key to boot from disc, but you will be prompted to do so if necessary.

Do you have the correct version of Windows 7? You cannot load a 64 bit onto a 32 bit system, you cannot load Ultimate onto Home.

Do you still boot to the original op sys, what was it?

Hi,

If your Windows 7 is corrupted you may have a couple of options. The most extreme, but fairly simple is to reinstall Windows. If data is not backed up, however, you may lose this. You will need your Windows 7 CD/DVD to reinstall Windows. Insert the disc into your Computer, reboot the computer and go into your BIOS. Set the computer to boot from the CD/DVD drive first. Once your computer reboots it should boot into the CD and start the install process. You may have a recovery option here.

Another option is to use System Restore which is a built in Windows Utility. To use System Restore go to Start > Programs > Accessories or Administrative Tools and choose System Restore. Alternatively, you can go to Start and in the search box type System Restore. Select a Restore point before your system was corrupted and see if this resolves your issue.

If you can't boot into Windows then you will need to boot into Safe mode to work on the problem. While the computer is rebooting keep pressing F8 and you will get a menu. Choose Safe Mode at this menu and then perform your troubleshooting.

My laptop is slow and wont reboot

Put the Windows Op Sys CD in the drive and boot the system, Interrupt the boot process and go to the BIOS. Select the first boot up device to be the CD/DVD drive and then save the settings. Exit from BIOS and reboot the laptop. Windows should start from the CD. You will see an option to repair etc. Select the R Repair option and follow instructions. Once this has completed, and it may take some time depending on how full the HD is go to www.ashampoo.de and download the 30 day free trial application of Ashampoo and run this over your system to clean it up. Then run the defrag option in the MODULES tab - Optimise Performance Option- Defrag 3. Once completed your system will be cleaned and optimised. In order to make the performance even better - add additional RAM to the unit - you can never have too much and make sure that the HD has a minimum of 10% space remaining otherwise the laptop will slow down in operation.

I want to boot from cd to change windows from xp to 98

enter the bios set up on start up. Go to boot sequence, change 1st option to cdrom instead of main drive. Save and exit. Let it boot up, put 98 disk in cdrom. Shut down, reboot and win 98 installation will begin asking you to over write existing ops sys. Choose yes and the install should be a breeze after this. Once xp is installed, dont forget to return to the bios and change back your boot sequence to hard drive as primary /master.
