Instalation of ink cartridge into Hp Office Jet 4215xi all-in one
It had a 28 and 56 cartridge. It is supposed to take a 58 cartridge as well. I can't make it work with just the 58 cartridge installed. To make matters worse, now that I have the cartridges out, I do not know how to install the cartridge into the machine. Help!

the most important is to remove all the air from the cartridge that has left inside durring refilling that is why professionals are using special machines that refill in 0 air πρεσυρε using vaccum pump

the printer itself recognizes cartridges
hp 57 print cartridge
hp 58 photo inkjet cartridge
and hp 28 inkjet print cartridge
any other cartridges will be of no use for this specific printer
1) printing a test page.
2)if you got HP solution Center with the software cd of the printer ans it is installed in the computer,you can easily check the ink levels there.
3)sometimes ink levels option is available in the priner drivers in the printers and faxes in the control panel.
4)right clik the printer icon and then goto properties and then you will find tabs to check the ink levels,it might be in the service this device under the maintenance tab.
if you are to lift the top part of your printer you will see the cartridges inside as shown below: Lifting the scanner bed exposes the entire paper path and gives your hands plenty of space to replace ink or clear paper jams.
It comes with HP #57 (C6657 A)—Tri-color print cartridge and HP #56 (C6656A)—Black print cartridge and the 56 must always be in there (the black one) but acceptable replacements for the color one are as follows: HP #58 (C6658A)—Photo print cartridge I suggest for the best photos use 58 and 56.
Please check :-
Protective tape on a new ink cartridge has been removed.
Contacts on the ink cartridge are not meeting the contacts in the carriage correctly.
Then try and do a head clean and printer head alignment.
