I have Samsung plasma TV (42").
Occasionally but several times every day, the screen has started to go black except one horizontal colour line (maybe 4 millileter high) somewhere in the screen. This will last from seconds to maybe few minutes. It helps for a while if I turn TV off and on.
Is this a common problem and could you help me with this i.e. what could cause this ?
br,
Marko

It could be the LVDS cable that is connected between the logic main board and the main board, sometimes this cable is too short and comes loose from one of the boards, it could also be a sign that the logic main is going out or the panel itself is shorting out

It sounds like an Intergrated Circuit (IC) has fried. Even on a good day, this is not something you can attack at home. As a tech (and as an owner of that model samsung), I'd need a map & tools to know what's going on. Your best bet in this situation is to contact Samsung and let them recommend an authorized service center in your area. Sorry I can't be of more help, but this is a rather serious problem.

we ( technicians ) call it a cold solder or burnt solder , just need to open the tv and give a VISUAL look thru the entire PC Board , good luck , AJ

I have a solution. My Samsung plasma had the same problem with the bottom half of the screen being black. Follow these directions and it will not cost you a dime, just some time. I took the back panel of the tv. I found the lower buffer board on the left hand side. I disconnect all the ribbon cables. Use an air cleaner to spray out any dust on the ribbon connection and the board. I connect the ribbons back to the board. My plasma is now as good as new. If you have issue with the top portion, do the same with the upper buffer board. I was going to buy a new tv but I'm glad I gave this a shot first. It's been almost a month and it's still working fine. Hope this helps and hope it saves you some money.

I have had a problem similar to this and the tech showed me on one of the boards the soder was getting to hot and loosing connectin after I would turn it off it would reconnect and work for a little longer and then do it all over. He had to re soder the board and the suggested adding a fan to cool the board down. I'm not sure this is what's going on but it sure sounds similar.
