Last night I opened our Whirlpool DU920PFGT4 dishwasher after it was done and found black and grey "stuff" on the bottom. I started to wipe it up and found big black chunks wedged up below the door. It didn't look like part of a gasket or rubber. None of it stuck to the dishes. It didn't smell bad (like old food). A lot of the pieces came out of an indent on the bottom of the inside of the door, but again, they were irregularly shaped and didn't seem like part of a gasket. Thanks
That black or gray stuff you're talking about is actually a combination of old food particles and soap deposits. The stuff builds up in the corners of the lower front areas of the tub and right under the inside of the door where it closes over the tub front. These areas can develop "scungy" deposits because these are areas that the dishwasher doesn't always clean and/or water remains pooled. A little routine cleaning about once a week around the bottom lip of the door and the door gasket with a damp sponge will prevent this build up. Hope this helps you.

Thanks! I'm glad it wasn't a gasket, but am embarassed that I didn't keep my dw cleaner (who knew you have to wash your dishwasher!).
