Suddenly stopped working. Turned dial in back (defrosting timer) started back working. Should I be concerned that it will do it again, if so what might need replacing

Sounds like the timer could be getting stuck and not releasing the defrost cycle. If you have to do it again, you should have the timer checked, or just replace it.

When my Frigidaire upright automatic defrost freezer stopped running. I turned dial on defrost timer and it started up again cooling fine but havent noticed if compressor has shut off yet for a break...

Hello friend, thank you for your post!

From what you have described you are having a problem with your Frigidaire freezer not shutting off and you feel it may be due to a defrost timer. This issue you are seeing could be a problem with your timer or thermostat. You might want to perform a reset on your freezer and you can do that by disconnecting the power cord from it for roughly ten minutes. If that does not help resolve your issue you might want to have a professional technician out to perform a diagnosis and repair. I hope this is helpful. -Matt

Why Frigidaire Upright freezer FFU20FC4AW2 compressor starts and stops

Hello Friend, thank you for your question!

From what you have described it sounds like the compressor is cycling on when cooling is necessary and cycles off when the temperature inside your freezer has reached the set temperature. This is normal. If you feel that there may be some other issue occurring, feel free to go to the manufacturer website where you can easily locate a service provider in your area.

Feel top of the compressor and tell me how hot after it has been running awhile. I need also that you advance the defrost timer=>. 216517400 Defrost Timer

clockwise slowly untill the compressor stops or starts. I need to make sure the timer is not stuck into defrost. I want you to leave the compressor off for up to 35 minutes. If the freezer compressor doesn't restart bt then simply again turn the timer clockwise slowly until it does and then stop turning. The defrost timer is location 23 in this photo HERE If you need to turn the defrost timer like this to restart the compressor then replace the defrost timer and this will resolve the freezing problem. If not we move to the defrost heater location 14 in the sme photo=> 216254600 Defrost Heater

Your defrost timer has stuck to on position, replace timer and all good or locate timer and spray lubricant into the dial and turn it several times with unit off, then try it after several hours, quick fix only but may last several years...good luck...Russ

Freezer will not come back on

First check the thermostat. It might have gotten turned up when you were cleaning it. If the thermostat is set correctly, the problem might be the defrost timer. It controls cycles the compressor off periodically to turn on the defrost heater. There are wires connecting it to the compressor. It is a little box, a bit smaller than a pack of cigarettes with about 3 to 4 wires connected to it. On one side is a hole with a plastic cam. The cam can be turned with a coin or a flat screwdriver. If it is turned about an quarter turn, it should click. If the compressor turns on after you turned the cam, then the problem is the defrost timer.

Upright frigidaire freezer not running properly

Sounds like your defrost timer has packed it in you need to fit another timer to it and everything will be as good as new.
by turning the timer you have forced it to run nothing to worry about. It has just stopped in the defrost position. What you have done is the first diagnostic test a tech would have performed. I hope this has helped you out.

Freezer won't start after defrost cycle

It might be the timer motor, if it doesn't run. neither does the timer. Easily replaceable and cheap. good luck. John

Upright freezer not cold enough

IF THE FREEZER IS AUTO DEFROST, DO YOU SEE A FROST BUILDUP ON THE BACK WALL? IF SO, YOU NEED TO DIAGNOSE THE DEFROST FAILURE. THERE ARE THREE ITEMS TO THE DEFROST CIRCUIT. THE TIMER, HEATER, AND BI-METAL. FIND THE TIMER, USUALLY ON THE BACK OF THE FREEZER DOWN IN THE CORNER NEAR THE COMPRESSOR. IT WILL HAVE A CONNECTOR WITH FOUR WIRES ATTACHED TO IT. IT HAS A KNOB THAT CAN BE TURNED TO PUT IT INTO A DEFROST CYCLE. WITH THE FREEZER RUNNING, START TURNING THE KNOB UNTIL THE COMPRESSOR STOPS. THAT WILL BE THE DEFROST CYCLE. THEN WAIT 5 MINUTES AND LISTEN IN THE FREEZER FOR A SIZZLING NOISE AND LOOK FOR A GLOWING FROM THE BACK BOTTOM. IF THE HEATER IS ON, THE TIMER IS THE PROBLEM. IF THE HEATER IS NOT ON, THE HEATER OR BI-METAL IS AT FAULT.
IF THE FREEZER IS NOT AUTO DEFROSTING, CHECK TO SEE IF THE COMPRESSOR IS RUNNING. IF IT IS, ARE THE SHELVES ALL FROSTED? IF NOT, YOU HAVE A SYSTEM FAILURE. IT COULD BE A LEAK, RESTRICTION, OR FAILED COMPRESSOR.
