The color wheel is faulty needs replacement the intermittent colors na fading is caused by the speed being not in sync with the dmd due to wear these and the fans are the only moving parts

If the capacitor on the ballast was puffed up or blown up you have to replace the lamp, ballast & SMPS at the same time. But if the ballast is not trying to fire the lamp it sounds like the color wheel is not coming up to speed. If this is the case, the set will not turn on.

Replaced lamp in toshiba 46hm84. still get

Hi,do you hear any strange noises? If you hear clicking or like wanting to turn on it could be the board that powers the lamp it's called the ballast. Here's the instructions to replace it :http://www.fixyourdlp.com/guides/samsung/bp47-00033a.php The ballast is the most common failure besides the lamp. The ballast is the one that displays the lamp indicator if it's not able to power bulb or if bulb is not responding.Have a blessed one!

Why does my samsung tv cut off by itself after 1-2 min and flash a red lamp button?

A little explanation first- this model (as do most Samsung DLP sets) will try 3 times to get the lamp lit before the microprocessor will give up and then the 3 lites on the front will blink indicating a LAMP failure. This process takes about 1 to 2 minutes. In order of probabilty, the failures are:
1) A faulty lamp and/or ballast. REPLACE LAMP AND/OR BALLAST
However, a faulty lamp and/or ballast are not the only things that will give this blink code-
2) If the color wheel has a bad bearing and turns too slow or not at all, the microprocessor WILL NOT let the lamp light, and then give a LAMP blink code. A bad color wheel will normally have some sort of abnormal sound- a low growl or high pitched whine is common. REPLACE COLOR WHEEL
3) ALSO, if the microprocessor (on the DMD board) in its color wheel rotation detection or processing fails, once again the lamp is prevented from coming on and you get a LAMP blink code. REPLACE DMD BOARD
IF THE SET EVER COMES ON WITH A PICTURE for even a fraction of a second or though it takes many tries, the lamp and ballast are good. The problem must be either the color wheel or DMD board.

Samsung HLN507WX lamp not coming on.

The Ballast is the next logical step but more often the Color Wheel has gone bad. Try this first. Make sure that the Lamp Door has been reinstalled and the screw has been tightened.
Next while you are at the back of the set listen for a short buzzing sound while you turn ON the set with the remote or have another person turn it on. If you hear a short buzzing sound then your Ballast is ok. The reason the lamp does not turn on is because if the Color Wheel does not spin up then the Digital bd will not let the set turn on. Color Wheel part# is BP96-00250A. Ballast part# is BP47-00008A

Samsung LA40R71BD will not turn on stanby button keeps flashing and making a clicking sound.

This could be lamp or ballast. First I would check the lamp. It could be bad (causing the clicking) or it may just need to be reseated with the ballast. If the lamp is not bad make sure it is connected to the ballast and pushed all the way in. If you still hear the clicking (the clicking may be the ballast trying to light the lamp. when turning on your tv, look to see if the ballast is flickering causing the clicking) and your lamp is good and seated correctly, then you ballast is going bad and it needs to be replaced. Last but not least. If that is not the problem then the clicking is a broken color wheel. A broken color wheel will sound like a clicking or a high squeal when going bad.

Samsung HLS4266W 43" dlp

Power issues (Tv not turning on) were typically due to faulty ballast. While the TV reports a bad lamp it is the ballast itself causing the issue. Samsung is well aware and will replace both the ballast and the lamp (since the lamp can be prematurely aged but the bad ballast). After replacment most people stop having issues.
