No, that is not the problem. I have the remote for the TV and I have the remote for the HR20. I can't use the HR 20 remote to control the "input" changes on the TV because it requires two steps, select the input and then hit "select". The HR 20 remote can change the input but it can't do the "select". The TV remote is too old to have the codes for the HR 20 and it doesn't have an "Auto find" function. I asked Hitachi if they had a newer remote that would work on the TV and also might have the HR 20 codes loaded in. They couldn't help at all. I can get a universal remote, but I wondered if there was a "fix" that would work with what I had. Thanks.
Now I have got the problem clear, depending on the TV model there can be no way to have this HR20 functionality on your TV.
Universal remote may not have full functionality on HR20 .
The TV remote should have a function to select the input on TV, this is often called AV selector, or on some old model it is activated by pressing the 0 button, check this out and let me know.
