SOURCE: About folder option

Hi,
Yes, that's true its infected by virus, if you can install a new anti-virus, and have it scann. If the problem still there use another anti-virus. If you want to view a hidden files even if it's infected by virus just creat a new user in your computer, with that new user you can enable a view hidden files.
Thanks.

SOURCE: about folder option

Click on Start - Run and then type:
Regedit
then go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Explorer\Advanced\Folder\Hidden\NOHIDDE N.
There should be two registry entries there:

- CheckedValue : Type: DWORD Value: 2
- DefaultValue : Type: DWORD Value: 2

(Correct them if necessary.)

Now open the key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Explorer\Advanced\Folder\Hidden\SHOWALL .

- CheckedValue : Type: DWORD Value: 1
- DefaultValue : Type: DWORD Value: 2

(Correct them if necessary.)

If the problem persists, open Start, Run, type "regsvr32 /i shell32.dll" and
click OK.
reboot the computer.
thats it, have fun :)

Folder Options is removed from Tools in Windows by a virus. The virus is called W32.Rontokbro@mm OR W32/Rontokbro.gen@MM

The removal of this virus is slightly difficult. Antivirus can't remove it automatically. However detailed procedure to remove it is available at

http://coolexp.blogspot.com/2008/01/fold...

About this Virus/Worm:
What it does is creating new files which looked like a folder but its actually a .exe file. Unless you’ve enabled the view extensions in the folder options or else you won’t see the .exe extension of the file. The file is approximately 43.7Kb and normally people will click to open it because it looked like a folder. So after you’ve open it, the virus will run each time during startup and keep on spreading and spreading… into the harddrives.

More troubles coming up. Normally when you click “Tools” in explorer, there’s a “folder options” underneath it. Once the pc is infected with the virus, the Folder Options will be missing, which disabled you to change the options to view the extension of the files. So when you see a new folder appeared from nowhere and you clicked to open it out of curiousity, the virus spread more again. Moreover, the virus disabled the registry edit where you will see this message “Registry edit is disabled by the administrator” everytime you try to edit the registry.

So how to clean the virus then? I found some solution from the following link and have successfully cleaned it from my system.

http://coolexp.blogspot.com/2008/01/fold...

It will help you to get rid of this virus named W32.Rontokbro@mm aka brontok.a and to get back your hidden files. Source(s): http://coolexp.blogspot.com/2008/01/fold...

Windows-based PCs b> Plug your iPod into your computer to open iTunes; if it doesn't automatically open, open it manually. A window will pop up on your computer asking you if you want to sync the contents of your iPod with the contents of your iTunes library. Click cancel. In the iTunes source list, choose the iPod, and make sure that you have selected the Summary tab in iTunes' main window. Open up the My Computer icon from either your desktop or the Start menu, and select your iPod from the window. In the My Computer window, open up the Tool menu and click on Folder Options. This will open up another window. Choose the View tab, and find the heading for Hidden Files and Folders. Click on the button that says "Show Hidden Files and Folders," then click the "Apply" button at the bottom of the Window. Close the Folder Options window. Find the iPod's icon on the desktop and double-click it. This will open more folders in the iPod window. Find the folder called iPod_control and double-click it. Now you will have a number of folders to choose from. Locate the music folder, and drag it to the main desktop so that it's copied to your computer. When the Music folder is on the desktop, right-click on it. From the window that appears, choose "Properties." In the Attributes area of the General tab, uncheck the Hidden option, and then click "Apply." A window will appear that will ask you to confirm the attribute changes. Make sure the box next to the Apply Changes to this Folder, Subfolders, and Files option is checked, and then click OK. Drag the folder and its contents into the iTunes library.

What do you mean you can't open files or folders? Are you saying the files or folders are not on the hard drive since it's blank? I think you've got a virus that has hidden your files and folders?

I'm not sure which operating system you have but you need to get to Folder Options.

In Windows XP you can click Start/My Computer. When My Computer Opens click Tools at the top of the window and then select Folder Options. When the Folder Options window opens, click the View Tab and scroll down and select Show All Hidden Files And Folders. Click OK then go click on your C: Local Drive and see if your folders and files are there. Hidden Folders will show up lighter than a normal folder.

First, open Folder Options either through the Control Panel, or click the Tools/View menu on Windows Explorer and click Options or Folder Options. Click the VIEW tab then locate and select the SHOW HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS option, then click APPLY/OK. Afterwards, you should be able to see the DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS folder. You may then right-click on it and choose Properties then uncheck/deselect the HIDDEN option and click APPLY/OK. If you prefer, you can then go back to the Folder Options to hide HIDDEN FILES/FOLDERS from Windows Explorer again.
