This is how the wireless world works. You buy a wireless router with a four port switch. Your DSL or cable connects to that. A cable called a Rj45 connects the DSL or cable to the back of the wireless router. You also buy a wireless network card for your PC. After running the software for the router & the wireless nic card including setting up a home network through windows your daughter will be able to connect that computer to your network from any room in the house. Below is a link to a wireless router:
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=10005578
You can connect up to four computers to the wirless router. A computer that does not connect to the router by a Rj45 must use a wireless network card. Linksys WMP54G Wireless-G PCI Adapter Retail: http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=252286
As you will see there is a big differance between a NIC card & a wireless card.

SOURCE: emachine model T3302 desktop ethernet question

Hi,

The "Realtek RTL 8139/810X family fast Ethernet NIC card" is a wired networking device. What you need is a WiFi Networking which can either be a PCI card (you need to open the PC and physically mount it inside) or perhaps the easiest, is to get a USB WiFi. There are so many brands, models and versions available and just about any would work. You need to verify though that the USB WiFi is compatible with your daughter PC's operating System (XP or Vista). Some known good brands are LinSys, DLink, NetGear. Some models/versions are simple gadgets that they look like a thumb/flash drive while others have a USB cable with a tabletop mount/rack/cradle.

Such can be bought from any computer shoppe/store. Most models come with an instruction/installer/driver CD that you need to run first before plugging in the WiFi USB.

If you already have an existing DSL account that connects to the Realtek, you would also need to get a Wireless AP/Router. It would probably be easier if you get a match pair (same brand)

If this is a completely new DSL WiFi setup, you need to get in touch with any WiFi Provider in your area. Most would provide a free USB WiFi Adapter if you subscribe to them so there would be no need to buy the USB WiFi adapter nor the Wireless AP/Router.

Hope this be of some help/idea. Pls post back how things turn out or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

You don't buy an ethernet port, you buy a new PCI LAN card hat you can find in every IT shop for $10.

SOURCE: Trying to install a linksys

It's not a internet controller, it's the driver.
It's not the driver for an emachine w3653 (which is the pc) it's the driver of the Linksys wireless card. Go here
http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-us/wireless/linksys
go to the page of your card and from there get the Vista driver.

Emachine t3626 internet port can it be replaced

Absolutely!

The Ethernet port on your eMachines is part of the motherboard.
It is attached directly to the motherboard.

The eMachines T3626 Desktop PC, is supposed to use an
ECS MCP61-P (AM2) motherboard. (Cannot verify)
(Elitegroup Computer Systems. (AM2) refers to the processor socket )

http://www.ebay.com/itm/MotherBoard-eMachines-T3626-T5062-T5234-W3622-/320528791641

(Also scroll down for a larger photo of the motherboard )

The Ethernet port is in the group signified by the letter A, on the left.
The group signified by the letter A, is in the I/O area.

Input/Output area. This is where Input, and Output devices are attached, TO the motherboard. (Using the motherboard's chipset)

Now look down the motherboard, to the two long white slots.
These are PCI slots. Signified by the letter I ( i )
If one of these slots is not being used, plug in an Ethernet Card, that is PCI.

If both of these PCI slots are being used, use the small white slot above them, signified by the letter H.

This is a PCI-Express x1 slot. If it is available, use it.
Use an Ethernet Card designed to fit, in a PCI-Express x1 slot.

Example;

PCI Ethernet Adapter Card,

PCI-Express x1 Ethernet Adapter Card,

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833106033

[ Note*
The PCI-Express x16 slot that you have, (Orange in color, above the white PCI-Express x1 slot), is for a graphics card.

It is ONLY for a graphics card.
The PCI-Express x1 slot is NOT used for a graphics card ]

For additional questions please post in a Comment.
(If you would like the proper procedure for installing a Ethernet Adapter Card, in your eMachines T3626, also state in a Comment)
