What Blu Ray to buy for ONKYO TX-NR801 for Dolby TrueHD, etc???

"Onkyo TX-NR801 AV receiver using a coaxial digital cable but cannot get sound from the AV receiver." In onkyo amp, choose DVD, then in digital audio settings choose coax1. Then enter. In blu ray player, digital output selection choose auto or bitstream .

Have you updated the onkyo firmware as Dolby atmos operation requires it
I use input one on my amp for the Sony
video out hdmi port on Sony to hdmi input one on amp the other hdmi port on the Sony is audio only for non 4k receivers /amps

DTS-HDMA and Dolby TrueHD cannot be passed to your receiver via bitstream on the PS3. DTS-HDMA cannot be decoded either so you're out of luck there.
Dolby TrueHD can be decoded internally on the PS3 assuming your firmware is up to date. Set the Blu-ray HDMI output to PCM and you can then pass it to your receiver.
If this doesnt work, do a system update on your PS3.

That Tv with the PS3 is a fantastic setup, The tv has one of the best picture quality ratings and the 4ms response time is great for fast action video and video games. The PS3 is a good decision for the Blu-Ray player, for the price you get a great game console along with the player, the drawback is that the PS3 runs alot hotter than a stand alone player, it will need to be well ventilated.
Your reciever will work but you won't be able to watch Blu-Ray in 1080p and that is the pupose of the PS3, you have to use the HDMI output on the PS3 to get 1080p and I doubt your reciever has HDMI, if it does your set if not I would buy a newer model with Dolby 5.1 and HDMI support, or if you want the best go with Dolby TrueHD.  
You will need HDMI cables.

In the menu is an option for switching master and true hd on. Standard its of and played als normal dts/dolby.

also: check the input (blu ray?): maybe it is set to only output no high def signals, so the amlifier doest recieve hd sound..

For dolby digital to work you have to have the optical or coax cable hooked up to the reciever ,The HDMI cable is for digital video and audio output but does not support dolby digital out the cable into your reciever , so just turn off the dolby digital on your reciever and you should hear the sound.

Dolby TrueHD is an advanced lossless multi-channel audio codec developed by Dolby Laboratories which is intended primarily for high-definition home-entertainment equipment such as Blu-ray Disc. It is the successor to the AC-3 Dolby Digital surround sound codec which was used as the audio standard for DVD discs. In this application, Dolby TrueHD competes with DTS-HD Master Audio, another lossless codec from Digital Theater System.
Dolby TrueHD uses Meridian Lossless Packing (MLP) as its mathematical basis for compressing audio samples. MLP was used on the earlier DVD-Audio format, but details of TrueHD and DVD-Audio differ substantially. A Dolby TrueHD bitstream can carry up to 14 discrete sound channels. Sample depths up to 24 bits/sample and audio sample rates up to 192 kHz are supported. Like the more common legacy codec Dolby Digital, TrueHD bitstreams carry program metadata. Are you playing a TrueHD format disc? Just like DTS 5.1 or any other format if your disc isnt coded in TRUEHD then your not going to get it. DTS or other formats cannot be "converted" to TrueHD like the video portion of a standard def disc. At this point there arent alot of TrueHD discs out but be paitent, this may change. Or not, due to the fact there are other "lossless" formats that may be more widely adopted. Sort of like DTS and THX were when DVD first came out. Hope this helps.
