Tascam DP-02CF: How to transfer files to my computer?

I have the Tascam DP-02CF Digital Portastudio. I'm trying to transfer a song/track to my PC (Win XP). I understand that you are suppose to push the usb button, then hit enter to connect to the computer. This then brings up an extra hard drive in My Computer (shows up as "removable drive" just like a thumb drive). However, nothing is ever in there. The manual mentions some named folders, but I don't see those either.

I've tried using the export track, export master functions from the "wave" portion of the menu. I've also tried creating backups. Still nothing shows up from my PC.

Perhaps this has nothing to do with the problem, but the manual talks about using FAT file system to transfer to the computer. Every time I try to choose a partition on the CF card it only lets me select partition 01 (which I'm assuming isn't using FAT?). The manual mentioned only having access to one partition if I have the 1 GB cf card that comes with the DP-02CF. I've tried doing a "FAT REFORMAT" from the card menu, but that doesn't seem to help.

The usb cable I'm using is functional.

Thanks,
-Jesse

Hi,

You can't see the fat partition from within the DP-02. It's there, but only your PC will be able to read the contents of the fat partition when you have the USB 'opened' on the DP-02. The manual states that if your CF card is less than 5 Gb in size than you will only see/be able to select one partition. The default CF card that comes with the DP-02CF is only 1 Gb.

If you've created a backup or exported your wav files properly and everything is working ok with the CF, then you should be able to see backup or wav files showing up in the fat partition while connected to the PC. Even if nothing is backed up or exported you should still see the directory structure from your PC with the three folders, BACKUP, WAVE and UTILITY. As you are not even seeing these directories, what may have happened is that the fat partition had become corrupted or these folders had gotten erased.

I would have thought that reformatting the FAT partition would have fixed this problem however and that the DP02-CF would automatically recreate the required directories on the CF media after a reformat. The manual is unclear on this however.

So a couple of things you could try:

1. You describe opening the USB connection as 'push the USB button and then hit enter'. I was assuming you meant that you were selecting 'usb' from the menu and then pressing the 'enter' button to open the usb connection. You may wish to verify that the usb connection is being opened properly first.

2. If the connection is opening ok, and after a reformat you still aren't seeing any folders in the fat partition while connected to your PC with the usb open, you might wish to try to recreating those directories in the FAT partition yourself. While accessing the FAT partition (DP-02CF's removable drive) from the PC create the three directories exactly as named in the manual (WAVE, BACKUP, UTILITY). If that works, disconnect from the PC, try exporting a track or backing up a song again, and reconnect to the PC to see if you can see/access those files now.

Best of luck.

I have a tascam dp-02(not the cf)and what i've found is once you master AND save a song press 'menu', scroll up to 'disk', press 'FAT reformat, press 'yes'press'wave', press 'export master', press yes, be patient ... this'll take a minute depending on how long your song is, once that's done press 'USB' , it'll ask you if your sure, press 'yes' and you should see it as an external drive on your PC ... open the 'WAVE' folder and fom there you should be able to save the song to your hard drive ... the only issue i have is that it's exported as a WAVE file ... you might wanna look into a converter that'll compress it to an mp3 file.

When i transfer songs from my tascam to my computer or burn to a cd. The audio volume is extremely low. How do I fix this.

There are simple free solutions for editing audio
Try using audacity
When you have it installed simply open your imported tracks, hit ctrl+A to select all the entire track, then pick Effect> Amplify. It will automatically choose a comfortable listening volume, if you still can't hear you may want to tinker with the audio a bit more.

Having trouble transfering my wav files from computer to tascam ( dp 02) even from cd to tascam . so i am unable to use .help? i have transfered my mp3 audio files to wav and tried to drag and drop from...

I had the same problem too but I figured it out. First you have to make sure your wav file is converted to (MONO) as opposed to Stereo, (which is the default channel setting). The best thing to do is to download a converter program, in my case I downloaded AVS Converter program which all I did was upload the wav file switch it to Mono 1.0 and that was that!! The Cons: for this program it costs money to download for your own keeping. I also suggest Audacity program my computer wont let me download it but a co-worker of mine has it and he said it's free to download.

My tascam dp 02 started up with this mount error message I bought a tascam dp 02 for my son for christmas. When I plug it into the mains the display shows ' mount error :oc /please pwr off'. my email is...

The TASCAM DP-02 Owner's Manual has no reference to a mount error in it. There are many people online complaining about mount errors on their computers, mac and win, when hooking the tascam up via USB, but your post suggests this error was on the DP-02 itself, is that correct?

I get less than a dozen hits of people asking this question online, and absolutely no useful answers or responses.

Do you have the DP-02CF model? If so, it may be a faulty CompactFlash Type I card that it is trying to mount. If there is a disk in the drive, I'd remove that cd in case it is trying to mount a bad disk.

I can most likely help troubleshoot a troublesome USB-to-computer connection, but otherwise I'm going to have to refer you to TASCAM customer service, (although I must say the forums I've perused have little positive to say about them.) TASCAM support in the UK (a guess, but you did use the term 'mains' in your post) is provided by TEAC UK Limited at +44-8451-302511 or www.tascam.co.uk.

Best of luck & I hope that helps.

Problem importing files to Tascam DP02-cf

They don't mention in the manual that in addition to being 44.4khz, 16bit, mono, the wav file also has to be at a bit rate of 705kbps. Using Audacity (freeware) you can convert most any audio file into the necessary wav format for the DP-02cf to use.

Load imported songs on tascam dp02 cf

Make sure you have the song loaded first. In this case it sounds like you are importing into a new song, so make sure that you have a new song created and loaded prior to importing.

Then go to the menu by pressing the 'MENU' sutton and from there select 'WAVE' and then 'IMPORT TRACK'. You'll see the list of wav files on the fat partition of the CF media displayed. Select the wav file with your beat track on it (use the DATA DIAL or up/down arrow buttons to highlight the right wav file) and press the 'YES/ENTER' button. You'll be prompted for the track to import into. Select Track01 and press the 'Yes/Enter' button again and the WAV file will be read and inported into track 1.

Please note that the wav file should be a 44.1 kHz, 16-bit and a mono wav before trying to import it. If the beat track was created as a stereo wav you'll have to go into a wav editor like Audacity and resave the file as a mono wav file first. Also for a wav with a bit rate higher than 16-bit, the DP-02 is going to truncate the bits rather than dither and this might effect quality adversly so you might want to make sure that the file is properly saved as 16-bit prior to attempting an import to avoid this.

Hope this helps.
