We had a skunking and I put a skunked blanket in with skunk mixture (which has some dishwashing soap in it) apparently too much b/c suds error. Removed blanket, soaked up water, still got suds error. What to do?
This term is often used to refer to spoiled beer; however
this is not the case. Beer becomes
skunked when it is unintentionally exposed to a lot of light (specifically UV
radiation). Basically what happens is
the light causes the hops to break down with other chemicals ultimately
creating a substance which produces a very strong and pungent sulfur smell -
thus giving it the 'skunked' term.
It is this reason why most bottled beers are manufactured in
brown bottles. The beers made in either
clear or green bottles are able to avoid skunking by using a hop substitute,
known as a tetra-hop.
