Samsung Microwave Oven Model smh918713 beeping

Samsung tells me I have a key short on the keypad for my microwave oven model SMH918713. The oven is beeping intermittently, cutting off in the middle of function, displaying an error code of "SE", and refusing to initiate function at times. Unplugging for a period of time will restore function, but the errors begin again immediately. I want to know if there is a customer serviceable part I can buy and replace myself, or whether I have to have a repair person come to my home.

You may need to replace the keypad. I found there was moisture causing the problem when we boiled water on the right side of our stove which is under the keypad. I let the microwave dry out for several days and now only use the left side of stove when we boil water and have not had the problem.

SOURCE: Microwave beeps, error codes display and keypad stops working

It sound like you have a bad keypad or controls.

Is it possible that moisture from the sponge is getting into the controls?

You might contact the manufacturer to see if there might be a recall. I've seen keypad recalls in the past.

Anytime the keypad is suspected of coming on by itself, the oven should be unplugged when not in use.

It may be that the magnetron is running a little hotter with a smaller load: Since fewer microwaves are being absorbed, more are being reflected back.

It may be a bad connection on the control board or a bad relay.

If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

If not, maybe you can keep a microwave-safe container inside with about 1/2 cup of water to "preload" it. Some people do that, especially when making popcorn.

Sounds like a bearing is tightening up when it get heated up with use. Then after a cool down period it works normally until using it heats it up again. Eric

Samsung microwave oven model #ME21K7010DS/AA

Judging from reviews of this model on Samsung's website, this is a common problem. Does it happen during or after using the cooktop or range below the microwave oven? In particular, is it most common when using the burner directly under the microwave oven control panel?

If the issues are correlated to heat or humidity from cooking on the range top, I would suspect problems with moisture in the keypad circuitry. I would consider cleaning the controller board key panel connector area with 90%+ isopropyl alcohol (this is an internal service on a circuit board that is most likely susceptible to damage by static electricity, so it should be done by someone who knows how to service electronics). This should remove contaminants that could cause current leakage between keypad connections (spurious keypad entries) in humid conditions. Let the board dry thoroughly before reconnecting.

It's also possible that moisture is getting into the keypad assembly. This would be a design/manufacturing flaw. I would guess the oven is out of warranty, so the fix would be to put the keypad in a dessicator for a day or so, then seal the edges with RTV Blue or a similar caulk that does not release acetic acid (vinegar) during the curing process. (Acetic acid even in vapor form may corrode the silver contact material in the keypad.) Do not seal the connector, just the edges of the flex ribbon layers where moisture can get into the key membranes.

In the meantime, always use the microwave oven fan when cooking on the range. This will help to keep the controller cool and dry. (Samsung's troubleshooting guide says the fan will turn on automatically if the microwave oven gets too warm from cooking underneath it.)

SAMSUNG MICROWAVE SHOWS SE AND WILL NOT WORK.WHY?

SE is an error code for a shorted keypad, although the keypad might not really be shorted.

Unplug the oven for a few minutes to see if it clears the error code. If not, then leave it unplugged over night. If the problem persists, then you probably do have a shorted membrane switch on the keypad.

I HAVE A SAMSUNG MICROWAVE MODEL SMH8165ST KEEPS BEEPING SE

"SE" error on a Samsung made microwave means you have a shorting membrane keypad.

This is a pretty simple DIY repair.

You would need part number DE94-01806C which you can get for about $68 from the Pros here, our favorite supplier.

Here's a YouTube video showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Then unplug the keypad strip and move your board into the new frame. Be careful, because the display is made of glass.

Samsung microwave SMH8165W displaying error code -SE- and continuously beeps.

SE means system error, the keypad has a short in the membrane, or the control board has issues.

My GE microwave is beeping and the display says F3

F3 on a GE / Hotpoint microwave means you have a shorted membrane keypad.

We would need your model number to give you more specific info, part ordering info, and en estimate if needed.

Simply contact me here with your model number and symptoms for free help.

On some models, the membrane keypad is peeled off and a new one stuck on.

In other models, the plastic frame must be replaced, and it comes with a keypad already installed.

My micro wave stop working f-2 is on screen

Possibly a keypad short or motherboard fault if it is a KitchenAid microwave. Beware if you have a KHMS155LSS model, a Keypad short can and will cause the microwave oven to start on its own. A real stunning defect.
