How do I security enable my Belkin router?

I have had a Belkin router for a while now. I know that others are using my network, but I don't know how to make my network security enabled. I don't have the box or anything anymore either, surely there is a way to add a password feature or something to access my wireless network. Thanks

Hi there,
Connect a computer to any one of the four LAN ports of the Belkin wireless router. DO NOT use a wireless connection, use a cable.
Open your web browser and type the IP address of the router (by default, the address is http://192.168.2.1.) in the address bar and press Enter.

Click Login on the top of the page to login to the router. By default the Password is left blank, click Submit.
Click Security under Wireless menu.
Under Security, Select 64 bit WEP (or 128 bit WEP).
Select Key 1 and enter any 10 hexadecimal digits - any combination of 0-9, A-F (26 digits if you selected 128-bit as the encryption strength). You may also enter a pass phrase and have the router generate a key for you. Example (0102030405060708090a0b0c)
Apply the settings.
Please write down the key – You will need it later to configure your wireless computers with the same key.
Remember to set an admin password before you close down, other vice anyone can access you router and change the setup and admin password.
/regards

Want to stop other people getting into my wireless router my router range is currently at its max but i want to decrese its range to about 10 metres

Hi,
I see that you want to lessen the range of your Router.
I believe that is not possible, the only way you can get your network secured is to enable the Network Security on your router, or Enable MAC Filtering to avoid other people from being able to connect to your personal Network.

I have this belkin and I want only myself to use this router, how do I blocked it from others?

Hi there.
I'm sure you want to secure your wireless network so only you can access it. There are many ways in doing this But first you have to change the router's default password to this You can enable the wireless encryption so you will be prompted to type a network password before connecting to your network. Lastly you can enable MAC filtering.
To enable wireless security click the link below: http://www.belkin.com/support/article/?lid=en&pid=F5D8231-4&aid=10177&scid=0 To enable the MAC filtering click this link below: http://www.corenetworkz.com/2009/07/enable-mac-address-filtering-in-belkin.html

We have a belkin.49ed router and hooked it up. It

The wireless security of the Belkin must have been enabled. Use a computer wired to the router to access the setup page and get the network key.

In the address bar of your browser, type 192.168.2.1.

By default, leave the password blank.

Once on the setup page of the router, go to Wireless -> Security. You will see the network key here.
On your laptop, view the available wireless networks and you should see your wireless network name or SSID, then when you click connect you have to enter the network key.

I hope this helps!

I have a belkin wireless adaptor, but a D-Link router, how do i link them!?!?????

You need to know the wireless settings on the Dlink router first. To check the wireless settings, you need to use a wired computer to the router.

Then in the address bar of a web browser (Internet explorer or firefox), type 192.168.0.1.

By default, the user name is Admin and leave the password empty.

Go to Wireless Settings. Take note of the following:

1. Enable wireless should be checked.
2. Take note of the wireless network name. You may change this into a unique name so that you can easily determine your own wireless network.
3. Visibility status should be Visible.
4. Under Wireless security mode, it depends on you if you would like to enable it or not. If you would like to enable the security, just select WEP. Then enter the WEP Key 1. This is like a password for your wireless network, use letters from A-F and numbers from 0-9.

Then click Save Settings.

Once the belkin wireless adapter is installed properly on your computer, there are 2 ways to connect to your wireless network.

Either you use the Belkin WLAN monitor or the Wireless network connection (for Windows OS). When you view the available networks or Site survey, you will see the wireless network name on your router. It will prompt you for a network key if wireless security is enabled.

Make sure you enter the WEP key 1 in your router. This is case sensitive.

I hope this helps! Good luck!

Setting up a belkin n wireless router. How do I

You have to go into the setup for the router. Most default to the 192.168.1.1 IP address. You would type that address into your internet browser and hit enter. Then you will be asked for a name and password. If you have your belkin manual it will tell you the default name and password. Once in the settings you can change the password. You can also turn off SSID broadcasting, enable the highest level of security that your particular router supports in conjunction with your computer and enable MAC authentication. If you enable MAC authentication you have to type in the MAC address for each device you wish to have access to the router.

I have a Belkin Router, have had it for a while now. I don't know how to make my network security enabled. Right now it's open and I know others in my building are using my network. How do I secure my...

Hi,
Type www.routerlogin.com into your internet address bar. enter your username and password for the router. if you don't know, try admin and password. You can change that to whatever you like, in the router's settings menu. Now go to Security, under Wireless, and change the drop down menu to WEP or WPA or whatever you like. WPA is stronger encryption. Apply.
Choose password, write it down somewhere safe, and exit.
Done!

How to make it a secure network

Malicious users can easily capture information transmitted over an open wireless network. To prevent unauthorized access to your personal information it needs to be encrypted.

To secure your wireless network some kind of encryption must be enabled on that network, whether it is WEP, WPA-PSK (or MAC Access Control List). The most used method (and easiest to configure) is WEP.

Configuring WEP:
  1. Connect a computer to any one of the four LAN ports of the Belkin wireless router.
  2. Open your web browser and type the router IP address of the router (by default, the address is http://192.168.2.1.) in the address bar and press Enter.
  3. Click Login on the top of the page to login to the router. By default the Password is left blank, click Submit.
  4. Click Security under Wireless menu.
  5. Under Security, Select 64 bit WEP (or 128 bit WEP).
  6. Select Key 1 and enter any 10 hexadecimal digits - any combination of 0-9, A-F (26 digits if you selected 128-bit as the encryption strength). You may also enter a pass phrase and have the router generate a key for you.
  7. Apply the settings. Please write down the key – You will need it later to configure your wireless computers with the same key.
Any other questions, let me know.

Cheers,
Nick
