Washer has an odor problem. Left lid open for years to prevent this problem. Lid was accidently closed for several days and now washer gives off a terrible odor through home.
Removes odor causing residue in front loading (HE) washers. Keeps your machine fresh and clean. Package includes 3 tablets. For front load washers only.
Here is what you need.
SOURCE: foul odor
Run the washer on the hottest setting you have with nothing but a cup of bleach in the tub. Pour the bleach through the dispenser so it cleans the dispenser as well. Run the washer like this and let it complete the cycle. If the smell persists, remove the lower kick panel under the door and check the drain trap on the drain pump for anything that could be caught in the pump and making it smell. This odor can travel back into the the wash tub. If you decide to open the drain pump, however, here\'s a bit of advice. There is some residual water that stays in the drain lines and pump (this is normal). If you remove the drain trap cover, all this water will come gushing out. To avoid this, take the drain hose out of the standpipe and use a wet/dry shop vac to pull this remaining water from the tub and lines. This will save you from a big clean up later. Lastly, you mentioned you\'ve been cleaning the rubber door boot. Are you using 50/50 mix of bleach water in a spray bottle? Are you cleaning the area behind the door boot where it meets the wash tub? I ask this because once mildew sets into the rubber it\'s hard to get rid of it unless you use something with chlorine in it to kill it. Also, articles of clothing get caught in this area and can begin to smell. Not to mention, all the nasty residue left by soap and detergent. If all else fails, and you have tried all the advice, the last thing I have found that works, is to simply replace the entire door boot. Try the cleaning options first, and if you still have problems let me know. I can give you step-by-step advice on how to change the door boot if you wish to pursue it. The cost, by the way, is about $80. I hope this helps you.

The loud humming noise is likely the pump. These pumps have a bad history with stripping the gears (the original code likely Ld? = Long Drain).
The pump is easy to replace, but make sure you find the replacement pump with metal gears (the original has plastic).
SOURCE: How do you open the
you have to take the case off.
take out the two screws on the control panel. they should be on the base of either the front or the back of the control panel. the picture is of one that is in the back.
these clips release the entire case, so you will have full access to everything you want including the lid switch.

we just bypass them, unless your going to stick your hand in there during spin cycle,-unplug washer, remove the 2 head screws 1 on each side of the head, flip the head up,you will see the lid switch jack in the middle of the top of washer, unplug it,cut the 2 outside wires and wire nut them together, plug back in,put the head back, plug in washer and your done, this way it cost you nothing to fix,the other way would be around $40,let me know how you do-mike
