I have the same problem...this is a work around, not a fix. You need a small flat-head screwdriver. 1. Remove the clear bobbin cover. 2. Make sure the feed dog switch is in the DOWN position. 3. Slide the screwdriver under the feeddogs from inside the bobbin area & lift the feed dogs. 4. While holding the feed dogs in the up position, return the feed dog knob to the up position. You have to do this every time you put the feed dogs down...bummer, but I can find no broken part or adjustment that corrects this. If it's inside the machine body, I don't mess with it... I did take off the bottom plate in the feed dog area..one screw holds it.... there is nothing there to indicate a problem.

    where is feed dog switch

  • Margie Campbell Jan 25, 2014

To raise the feed dogs...Take off the freearm extension (cover over the base of the machine). Now you should see the feed dog lever/switch...move it to the side that you want (there are two options...a line with teeth on top, and a line with teeth under it). To raise the feed dogs...move the switch to the line with the teeth above it...then turn the hand wheel about 1/4 turn clockwise (away from you)...only turn until the feed dogs pop up.

To put the feed dogs down, move the lever/switch to the side with the teeth Under the line. Turn the hand wheel towards you...the feed dogs should go down.

You don't want to use a screwdriver on the feed dogs, you may strip a screw. If you read the manual, it will tell you how to raise/lower the feed dogs. If you don't have the manual...you can download the pdf version free athttp://www.singerco.com

Most problems with the feed dog stuck down will be resolved with a few stitches being made.

The feed dogs can not be raised only by sliding the drop feed lever to .

  1. Slide the drop feed lever to the lower position
  2. Turn the handwheel toward you (counterclockwise), or press the "Needle Position" button once or twice.

The dogs on my Brother XR-52 wont feed my fabric through

Are they in the raised position? Are they dirty--debris stuck between the teeth? Is the stitch length set to a higher number that will produce a longer stitch? Are they actually moving at all? When the presser foot is lowered, is it actually resting on the feed dogs? If you are sewing light weight fabric, you may need to adjust the presser foot pressure adjustment.

Fabric not advancing

Make sure the feed dogs are not in the dropped position (for darning).

If it is very light-weight fabric, most machines will have a presser foot pressure adjustment that will increase the presser foot's pressure on the feed dogs, thus pulling the fabric through better.

Make sure the feed dogs are clean--no debris stuck between the teeth, under the feed dogs, or around the bobbin case. If it is an older machine that has been used a lot, the feed dogs could be worn down and need replacement or adjustment. (Do not run the machine with the presser foot directly on the feed dogs. This will cause excessive wear to the feed dogs and the presser foot.)

The feed dog is stuck in the down position, and it will not adjust to the higher position when I adjust the feed dog control. Thanks for your help!

the best thing to do is have the feed dog check to see if it needs a adjustment or if it needs to be replaced

The dog feed stuck in the downward position.

When you set the switch for the feed dogs to be in the up position, turn the handwheel 1 complete revolution and they should come up.

Feed dogs stuck in down position

The feed dogs come up as soon as you start sewing again. Just make sure they're in the up position and start sewing.

Feed Dog on Brother 270d stuck in up position

I finally figured this out. The feed dog switch in the back was not hitting anything when I moved it back and forth. There is a screw on the underside of the machine that I tightened. It seemed to do the trick. Thanks.
