Lost power earlier this evening, when power was restored had no internet service. Worked with internet provider for hours and 3 phone calls to restore internet service. Now when I disconnect ethernet cable and plug into router and blue cable into modem I have no internet connection.

ok, so my problem was fixed by manually adding the ISP's DNS IP address to the setup within the router. I also have a speedstream modem and 520-GC, but connect through AAPT, ISP shouldn't matter in this instance. If you can't get the IP of the DNS server by calling optus, plug the ethernet cable back into the modem and one laptop, and find it in the web-based modem config (192.168.1.254). unplug the ethernet cable from your modem/laptop and back into the router. enter the web-config of the router (usually 192.168.1.1), 'Finish' 'save and restart'. once restarted, you will likely need to restart all computers. if this still doesn't work, command prompt on each computer and type ipconfig /registerdns. hopefully this will solve it completely. Nifty

Your modem has already registered itself with the MAC address of your computer, so it doesn't recognize the MAC of your router. In cases like this you have two options:
Clone MAC - Go to your routers Admin web interface and on the main page you should see the "Router MAC Address" section at the bottom. Select "Use Computer MAC Address" and click "Apply" and your router should reboot and you'll be back in business.
Soft Reset -
Plug the modem into the router via the ethernet cable then do a soft
reset.
To do a soft reset, do the following:

FYI for those people trying to use a ethernet and usb cable from a cable modem - it may work for a while but it won't work forever - your ISP will only allow one IP address out of the modem unless you pay for additional addresses (then you need a switch). Each device you have on the modem is fighting for that IP and eventually it will just quit working (if it works at all).
If you want more than one computer on your network (on the Internet or sharing printers/files, etc) then you need a router or a gateway (cable modem/router combo which I DON'T recommend).

Shut down your computer, unplug the cable modem and the switch. Connect all three - computer to switch, switch to modem. Make sure that the ethernet cable between the router and the modem is in the router uplink port and that the computer is plugged into one of the four ports that look alike. Wait 30 seconds - plug in the modem. Wait another 30 seconds, plug in the router, wait another 30 seconds and boot the computer. Open a browser and see if you have internet access. If you still don't, then try to check the browser by typing 192.168.1.1 into the address bar of the browser. That should give you the browser sign in screen. The Linksys default is to leave the user name blank and type admin for the password. That should give you access to the router so you can check the settings. If this doesn't work, document carefully what happens and post again with your results and we'll try to go from there.

maybe you have to wait for your provider for them to isolate the problem, it seems that your modem got hit maybe by high surge. ask them to bring a spare modem for isolation.. there is no way for you to isolate the problem coz you've already done the basic....
