Shutter release button is stuck

needs repairing at a qualified shop

My shutter does that when there is low light, or just slow shutter speed. You could try changing those settings, otherwise, last time mine got stuck, I loosened a screw on the bottom right under the shutter release button and the shutter just snapped back into its place.

I would think that the camera has dropped the shutter by now.

There is a mode in the camera that holds the mirror up out of the way for sensor cleaning but this is defaulted as soon as the power is shut off and then turned back on again.

Or the camera was set in manual mode "Bulb" and is waiting for the next command from the photographer to "drop" the shutter "takes a second press of the shutter button.

The lens may be loose (unlocked) and giving a bad command to the camera.

The Canon 40D has a shutter capable of 60,000 actuation so if you are close to this I'd say the shutter has been shot out of it.

Also sometimes the shutter release button sticks and gives the feeling or appearance of a stuck shutter.

Shutter switch also known as a release button have been an issue sometimes where dirt and oil from a person hands get down into the button.

To release shut the camera off, take the battery out, remove and reinstall the lens, shift the taking mode to "P" program or full automatic green box.

Did you actually mean shutter release or shutter advance? And to load the film,you need to pull the roll winder upwards. While you pull the winder upwards, it would have a tuck voice and then the back cover would open up. Make sure you have wound the entire roll before you open the back.

I e-mailed nikon for this same problem. Their solution was to take out the memory card and press the shutter release button in the demo mode. To get to the demo mode you first need to go to custom menu/controls/no memory card?/press ok/ arrow down to enable release and press ok. Now you are ready to try solving this problem. Press the shutter release button to see if it will reset the shutter release button. I haven't tried it yet but it is worth a try.

There is an almost certainty that your mirror and shutter is going to experience problems in the future. Any fall of that nature is SURE to jar the shutter and the mirror very badly. The shutter is probably damaged already. Go out in the bright sun and shoot on shutter priority at the highest shutter speed (I think the 90 is 4000 /s?) and see if the shutter makes a stuttering noise...Also go into your menu and set the mirror to "Lock up" (for cleaning purposes), if both of these things work ok, you should be ok for a while. But do not depend on the camera for anything really important such as weddings unless you have a backup camera...

The manual (pg 112) simply, and unfortunately, states this message "Press shutter release button again. If error persists, consult with Nikon-authorized service representative".

Some questions that might help: have you had the camera in some extreme conditions, damp, sand, etc. Clean the shutter button really well. Maybe use a small air blower and clean in the shutter release creases.

In the end, if the error continues, it will need to be serviced.

Hi , to release the shutter open the lense and push shutter button , rotate the camera mode to auto or manual release shutter.donnot set on bulb or lower speed can cause stuck camera miror and stter curtain, or blade.

Sounds like the chassis under the shutter button has somehow distanced itself from the shutter release button, maybe bent away from the button? Its s stretch but that maybe the problem. The button is designed to have 2 contacts in it, the autofocus switch and the shutter release depending on how much you press it, like most cameras

if you see no reation of the pressing of the button i.e. no focusing, no error message nothing , then most probably a simplest problem , the shutter release button may not be working for few reasons : 1) defective switch. 2) defective flex cable. 3) camera exposed to some physical jerk or dropping resulting into disalingment between inner switch and the shutter release button.
