I have a Vaio all in one. I had a USB flash drive in a port, and when I removed it the screen on the computer went blank. I have put the system to sleep , the start up works fine, the screen works, but after about 5 seconds goes blank again. This will also occur on a reboot of the system. Is the screen shot?

Follow the command prompts to install the program onto the computer's hard drive. Restart the PC after the installation has been completed. Double-click on the password protection program to launch it. Wait for the password protection program to recognize the USB flash drive and display disc letters for the drives attached to the computer in the left column of its main program screen. Plug the USB connector of the USB flash drive into a USB port on the computer. Wait for a letter to appear in the left column of the password protection program's main screen. Use the mouse to click once on this letter which represents the USB flash drive. Click on the "Volume" or "Volume Tools" button to open a new window. Click on the "Next" button in the new window. Erase the password in the "Password" column of the new window that appears. Erase the password in the "Confirm password" column. Click on the "Next" button to go to a new screen. Select "Traveler Disk Setup" from the drop down menu below "Tools" at the top of the password protection screen. Click on the "Open Explorer window for mounted volume" check box in the new window that appears. Click the "Create" button at the bottom of the window. Click the "OK" button on the confirmation window when it appears. Quit the password protection program. Enter "regedit" into the text column that appears and press the "enter" key to run the registry editor. Press the "Browse" button on the registry editor's main screen and navigate to the following path on the computer's hard drive: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies" Click "OK" to close the window. Double-click on the "WriteProtect" text that is in the right column of the registry editor's main screen. Enter "O" into the "Value Data box" in the window that appears. Click on the "OK" button to close the window. Quit the registry editor program. Restart the PC. Double-click on the icon of the USB flash drive that is on the desktop to open its window and access the files now that the security write protection has been removed.

Try to start the system in safe mode and see if that works if so it is not the screen.
To enter safe mode press F8 during boot up after the bios screen.

To Format Any Flash (USB) Drive

WARNING: This will permanently remove ALL data from your flash drive.

1) Insert the flash drive into a working usb port on your Windows PC.
2) Open "My Computer" in Windows XP or eariler OR "Computer" in Windows Vista/7
3) Right click on the Flash Drive (Usually labeled "Removable Disk")
4) Click "Format..."
5) Ensure that file system is "FAT32", Volume label is a name of your choosing, and that "Quick Format" is unchecked
6) Click "Start"
7) Windows will warn you that all data is about to be deleted. Click OK.
8) Once the format is complete, Windows will produce a pop-up window telling you so.

You now have a blank flash drive.

To Create a Crisis Recovery USB you must use a Win XP system
Note: Running XP through compatibility more in Win 7 will not work
1. Insert Blank USB Drive
2. Open "CRISDISK" folder
3. Open "WINCRIS" application
4. It should detect the USB Drive
5. Click "Start" Button
WINCRIS should create the USB recovery drive
6. For Crisis recover, be sure to Power drain system.
A. Remove Battery
B. Depress power button for 10-15 sec.
7. Insert USB drive into USB port.
8. Hold END button while plugging in power cord in system
9. Continue to hold END and depress and release the system power button.
10. Continue holding END until USB drive begins to flash and a beep is heard.
11. System may remain blank as it enters recovery mode - Anoying Beeping will be heard - Beeping will stop and FANS will function Another series of Beeps will be heard
12. System should complete recovery in 5-10 min. If system has not powered down in 15 min, power down by pressing the power button

Disconnect the flash drive from your computer, then plug it into a different USB port. On occasion some USB ports do not detect inserted equipment (either because the port is damaged or because the flash drive is not supported by the particular connection).

Connect the flash drive after the computer has powered on. If you plug the drive into the computer before starting the system, the computer may not detect the USB device.

Open an Internet browser and navigate to the drive manufacturer's website. Although most USB flash drives are plug-n-play, the computer may not have the appropriate drivers installed, which means you must install the driver before the system can use the flash drive.

Select the "Support" option, then choose "Drivers and Downloads". Click on the model of flash drive you are using, then the operating system. Click on the driver download link and wait for the driver to download to the computer. Double-click the downloaded file to load the installation wizard. Accept the license agreement, then follow the prompts to install the driver. Restart the computer and the system is ready to use the USB flash drive.

Most probably you have a drive letter conflict? If so, right click "My computer" choose "Manage" and locate "Disk management" - here, in the middle lower panel, you should be able to find your usb-memory stick, right click it and assign it a drive letter that you're sure is not in use.

If your usb port is working properly your computer should pick up the the pen drive as soon as you put it in the usb port if not goto add and remove hardware and check to see if the diver is up to date .hope this works for you let me know ok
