You don't need any additional software.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use iPhoto or any other photo cataloging program.

SOURCE: find cd software download for canon powershot SD1000 I lost my original cd

Which operating system do you have? Windows? mac? if it is windows which version? You should not need a lot of software to use the camera as you should be able to connect the camera and see the pictures (mac os 10.4 and windows XP/vista)
You can try going here to see if any of the software will help you:
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=SupportDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=224&modelid=14901#DownloadDetailAct

You will have to select your operating system before it will show you any software otherwise you will only get the manuals.
Hope that helps

If you do not have the software, you need to download the software from one of the following locations:

Official Canon Drivers and Software

Canon USA:DRIVER & DOWNLOADS

After downloading is finished, unplug the USB cable and run the software that you downloaded.
The software installer will tell you when to connect USB.

Since your two cameras have the same problem with the same computer, I would like to suggest you to connect those cameras to another computer. It looks like the problem is on the computer side.

You might want to consider NOT connecting the camera to the computer.

Canon sd1000 time and date dispay on images

The SD1000 has a built-in date stamp function but it is only available in the postcard (1600x1050) function mode. Once you switch to this mode, you can then enable the datestamp feature in the main menu.

If this is unacceptable, you can use some image editing software to add the datestamp after the photo is transferred to your computer. The date/time information is actually stored in the image's EXIF information.

How to transfer pictures from my Canon PowerShot SD1000 digital camera to my computer

There are two ways of doing this:
  1. Install the software on the CD that came with the camera, then use the USB cable that came with the camera to connect it to the computer. The software should walk you through the rest of the process.
  2. Buy an SD card reader (example Card Reader from Amazon.com), connect it to your computer, and take out the SD memory card from the camera, and insert it into the appropriate card slot on the card reader. Then use whatever photo management software to manage your photos.
I would recommend the second method since it reduces the wear and tear on your camera and allows you to access the photos easier through Windows Explorer or Finder (MacOS).
Hope that helps!

Battery not recharging

Hi

You can't charge your battery while it is in the camera; the USB cable that connects to your computer is for transferring pictures not charging the battery.

If your computer has a SD card reader, you might be better off putting your memory card into your computer and just copying the data.

Have you made sure your iPhoto is up to date? Perhaps a new update caused this problem.. Maybe you should try an older version of the software. Also, you might want to try other software. (I think you are on a mac?), you might want to try the software that came with the camera, if it works on your computer.
