The DIR-625 is ~2 yrs. old. It has worked fine until now. The Wii used to be able to connect to the internet. The new Toshiba laptop has never connected. I took the new laptop to a library and to Best Buy and it connected to the internet just fine. I tried unplugging the router and turning off the computer and restarting everything, but it didn't work. I still get the "network connection is unplugged" line at the bottom of the screen. Is there some trick to fixing this or do I need a new wireless router? Thank you whoever can help me!

How do you know that you are connecting and there is no security? There first thing to check is the router settings. You should type into the browser 192.168.1.1 (or whatever you have configured your router's IP address for). Enter the user name and password for the router. On the next screen you will notice a link for wireless settings. Click this and on the new page check the bottom section that says "Wireless Security Mode". It should be set to something other than "none". Post back and let me know what it is set to.

The vista is wireless?
Right click the computer icon on the bottom right hand>click connect to a network>then click network and hit connect if its secure it will ask you for the security if not just click connect anyway.

Hey Raj - Unplug your modem and router. After 60 seconds plug your modem back in. When the lights return to normal (except the activity light) , plug your router back in. Give it 10 seconds and try it. If this solves your problem PLEASE rate this as fixed. If not, DO NOT RATE YET. Just add a comment letting me know what happened and I'll be happy to assist you further. Thanks.

SOURCE: cant figureout how to set a password to a d-link router
Hi…I’ll try and lend a hand. There are several ways to set up wireless security on this router. However, I’ll help you set it up using the manual method.
Important note: use a wired (Ethernet) connection to the router to set up wireless security.
There are four main steps:
1) Login to your router.
I’m sure you have done this already, but here it is again for clarity. Type the router address in the address bar of a web browser. For this router, it is http://192.168.0.1
Select ‘Admin’ from the dropdown box, then enter your password IF you have set one – otherwise, just leave the field blank and press return.
You should then see the configuration screen/user interface.
2) Change the router password.
If you HAVEN’T set a password, this is a good place to start. Go to Tools >Admin option. Set and confirm a password for ‘Admin’, and note it down. Also, set and confirm a password for ‘User’. Click ‘save settings’ when finished.
Make sure these passwords are not easy to guess, or a neighbour could log into your router and view/change all your settings.
3) Change the SSID (router name):
Go to Setup > Wireless Settings. You should see an option marked ‘Wireless Network Name’ or SSID. Change this from the default, ‘dlink’, to anything you like –as long as you can remember it. It is case sensitive, and you can use up to 32 letters – but don’t use something that could identify you, or your location. Click ‘save settings’ when finished.
4) Enable encryption
Still in the 'Wireless Settings' menu option, you should see the ‘Wireless Security Mode’ section. Under the 'Security mode' dropdown you have a number of options for encryption. WPA is safest....I would pick WPA-Personal.
You should see a dropdown box marked WPA Mode – select Auto. Leave Group Key Update Interval at the default of 3600s.
Under Pre-Shared Key you should enter a long password, or passphrase, between 8 and 63 letters/numbers long. This can be any series of letters/ numbers, or you can use a phrase with numbers ( eg - 456HappyhOLIdaystoyou8899). It is case sensitive.
Note down the passphrase carefully. You will need this to connect wirelessly. (The WPA shared key may also be called the network key, PSK, pre-shared key or passphrase). Click 'Save settings' when finished.
That's it, you have done enough to secure your network, and can close the screen.
There are further security options to enable if you wish, but these three are the most important.
When you next connect wirelessly, you'll see the router with its new name in your 'available wireless networks'. When you attempt to connect, you are asked for the WPA shared key you set in Step 4. If all goes well, you can then save this and will connect automatically in future.
Hope this helps you. Please come back to Fixya if this doesn't work or if you need help with any of it.
SOURCE: Can't connect to the internet with the laptop.
If I’ve understood correctly, you could connect wirelessly at the library, but can’t at home? The ‘Network Cable is unplugged’ message refers to a wired Ethernet connection, so unless you are trying to make a wired connection, we can disregard that for now.
It’s possible you have some security settings on your router, which might prevent the Toshiba wireless card from ‘seeing’ the network or connecting to it.
Can you login to your router (with a wired connection) and check whether the SSID (network name) is being broadcast, and whether MAC address filtering is enabled?
SSID broadcast is under Setup > Wireless Settings > ‘Visibility Status’. Set to Visible if necessary. MAC filtering is under Advanced > Network filter. If it’s ON, set it to OFF for the moment. When you reboot the Toshiba, can it now ‘find’ the network?
Please check back if you need a hand with this or if this is not the problem.

I unplugged
I unplugged all three cables coming into the wireless router. I turned off the desktop computer. I then plugged the wires back into the router and turned the computer back on. Still can't get the internet on the laptop. It keeps saying it cannot display this webpage, etc. It connected fine at the other places. And the desktop computer works fine. We have high speed internet with Brighthouse. I don't know how to plug the laptop directly into the router.
I put the laptop on the same desk as the main computer and tried to connect to the internet again and this time it actually worked. I then tried it across the room and it worked again! All I did was unplug and replug everything. Thanks.
You plug the laptop directly into the router the same way you do your desktop. There is a connector just like you have on your desktop either on the side or back. Let me know if that allows you to connect.
When you highlight the "cable unplugged" icon, does it say "wireless networks available"?
Can you see your network connection and it just wont connect? What have you tried? Did you try plugging the laptop or Wii directly into the router?
