Recently had new battery fitted, now radio will not work. I bought car secondhand with no owners manual. Renault Laguna Sport, year 2000, model 1.8 16valve.
I don't know if this works on those newer type stereos but years ago people used to put vauxhall stereos in the freezer for 24 or so hours, defrost so there's no water on the circuits or pop the top off & wipe circuits dry, then power it up & the code is not needed any more.
I have done it myself before & it did work but they changed the EPROM chips after that little trick got around as EPROM stands for (Erasable Programable Read Only Memory) & freezing them worked, if that dosent work you could try finding the chip (look's like normal chip but has a white sticker over a glass lens on the top middle of the chip) ultra violet light re-sets some when passed over the chip lens, you could have a laugh & go to your local shop & use their note testing light as that has a UV Ultra Violet tube. anyway joking aside freezing cant hurt & it is a joke having to pay for your own car stereo code if it is legally your car stereo & you can prove it!
Have fun Oh & by the way im not insane just an electronic engineer!!!!
Not familar with your car but I had same problem many years ago with a Vauxhall Astra and did same as you, disconnected battery and re-connected, radio didn't work - but my display kept flashing for security code to be re-input, which I didn't have.
Yours could be the same if radio not worked since disconnection - solution: if you dont have code & not in any documentation you got with car, then the radio will need to be re-coded by a dealer (expensive) or enquire with local car spares shops - they normally know a cheaper source. Mine cost about £18 (5 years ago) to get re-coded & I had to remove & reinstall myself.

Hi, so you press 2&5, than "on" button, radio starts to play music and beeps every few seconds, now you input number code i.e. 0123 where you jump to second digit because first is 0? and finaly press 5 to memorize code.
did i get ir right?
My renault does not have stick control near steering wheel.
or
the way to enable code mode is to turn off the radio - then hold down 2&5 & press the on button - this will bring you into the 0000 code mode.
When you disconnect your battery and then reconnect it again, it disables the radio. This is an anti-theft protection for your car radio. The enable your radio the activation code is in your vehicle owner's manual. If you do not have this code you need to go to your Renault service centre and get them to enter this code for you.

I had a Laguna before the gearbox packed up. Nice car but a really bad gearbox. My radio was the same. What I used to do to get it going again was disconnect the battery and thereby power it down completely. After I reconnected the battery it allowed me to reenter the code as described in the radio manual.
Happy listening, with the radio on you wont hear the gearbox tearing itself to pieces.
