Fee error on d300 with Sigma lens with aperture ring

This is with the Sigma 24mm? If this is with the Nikon 24mm AF-D or another lens with an aperture ring then turn the aperture ring to its smallest setting (largest f/number) and control the aperture from the camera body the same way as with a lens without an aperture ring.

If it really is with the Sigma lens, try cleaning the contacts on the back of the lens and in the lens mount on the camera body.

That the EE servo coupling highlighted above on the lenses has not been broken. That the F-min switch highlighted above on the camera body has not been broken. If either of the two items above are broken please contact your local Nikon service center.

You didn't specify which Sigma 70-300mm lens (Sigma has at least five different versions, and I'm not referring to the lens mount), but from the error message I assume the lens has an aperture ring. Turn the aperture ring to its smallest setting (largest f/number) and lock it in place. Control the aperture from the camera, the same way as on a lens without an aperture ring.

If the lens doesn't have an aperture ring, please reply to this post specifying the exact model of the lens. That's all of the numbers and letters around the 70-300mm, like AF, DGO, f/4.5, etc.

The FEE error indicates that the camera cannot control the full range of the lens aperture. If your lens has a mechanical aperture ring, rotate the aperture to its smallest opening, or highest f-number - normally marked in orange. Select this aperture and lock it using the aperture locking switch to prevent this message from appearing again.

Yes. The D300 has a focus motor built into the body and thus does not need one in the lens. The lens will also meter properly with the D300.

In all modes the aperture ring on the lens should be locked at the smallest aperture. In the M and A modes you control the aperture by turning the command dial on the front of the camera. In P and S modes you control the aperture indirectly by turning the command dial on the back of the camera.

The problem may be with the sigma's aperture ring. Try this:

- Turn camera off
- Turn the aperture ring clockwise and lock it
- Turn camera on

If this does not solve the problem, do it again but turn it counter-clockwise
