Hi-I have a GE Profile side-by-side that is 2 years old and yesterday the fridge temp was 54 degrees and the freezer side was at 4 so I opened the freezer and there was melted frozen water all down the back and on the sides, like someone had poured water into it! The ice in the icemaker was also all frozen together. The freezer temp when as high at 10 deg and then started to drop. This morning, everything looks normal; the freezer is at 0 and the fridge at 35. I have no idea what caused the melt down and the high temps...i don't know whether to have it serviced or just put the food back in it and let it go...
Self defrost mechanism may have an issue. If it stays on too long you will have excessive temps build up in refrig as well as freezer. There is also a defrost thermostat that is supposed to turn compressor back on when temps get too high - check that out also.

repl main board and make sure your out let is properly wired and grounded those main boards are sensitive when not grounded

one of the hardest things to diagnous is food defrosting in the freezer. i found out the hard way about 35 years ago, but not until i banged my head against the wall a few times. the problem was the customer didn't have enough food in the freezer as she was a weekender.frozen food needs frozen food to keep the food frozen confused? so was i . every time your refrigerator goes into defrost( usually every 8 hours) a heating coil comes on in the back of the freezer. if the freezer is not full enough this heater can raise the temperature in the freezer to 40 degrees which will soften the food and melt the ice considering the time it takesto refreeze the food. i never forgot that service in fact i can see it in my head right now.. try this cure first let me know

Check the back wall of the freezer for a ice buildup.
If ice is there you have a defrost parts issue.
That will cause the temps you report.
Also, check the freezer fan motor.
Is it running?
Also check the condenser fan motor at the compressor. Is it running?

If your model is doing that I would consider looking at the defrost components. Look inside back of freezer for frost building a thin layer on the rear wall. If yes then unplug and remove the rear panel in back of freezer and defrost with a hair dryer. You have and air circulation problem or a defrost problem. Sounds like it's trying to defrost but we need to have a look at the evaporator coils in the rear behind that cover. First let me know what you find and we will go from there, Thanks Sea breeze

Pull the refrig out from the wall , and remove the rear panel . Touch the compressor and feel if its hot or running . If the compressor is cool , then the main control board is bad ( since the compressor isn't running ) . If you can solder , you can repair the board (another paragraph ) . If the compressor is warm , then you could have a thermistor or 2 bad . This would have to be checked by a technician , unless you know how to get into the diagnostics procedure . Also , see if the compressor cooling fan is working and the black squirl cage is clean of dust .
