VSI is the controller under the joy stick. Water will ruin the electronic circuits . The controller is expensive new. You can find rebuilt ones cheaper or can have yours rebuilt. Check your local mobility service shop or on line repair facilities.

SOURCE: I need a used/remanufactured 50 Amp VSI Controller

Search ebay, you'll find them new and used, and make sure that the connection into the chair matches up with your chair...most will send you a picture of it, and also make sure that the controller is programmed for RWD (Rear Wheel Drive), or you will also need to get a PP1 programmer to reset it for your chair. If it came off of any RWD chair and the connections are the same, it will work on your GO-GO.

SOURCE: Diagnosing VSI joystick controller

I have a Golden Alante power chair. The on/off switch will not operate after I got caught in a rain storm. I took the joystick apart and cleaned the contacts with alcohol but it still does not work. I can short across the two terminals on the circuit board to turn it on. The rubber buttons have what I assume is some sort of carbon infused contact to short across the two gold color contacts on the circuit board. That did not help. Does anyone know of a more effective cleaner that might help rejuvenate the contacts? HELP!

Medicare should be able to help you locate a service center. The controller has some electronics that may have been damaged by the rain. It needs to be tested for sure.

My chair will not move and the charge light flashes continuously, both when the charger is plugged in and when it is detached.

The VSI controller is manufactured by Penny and Giles Drive Technology. A picture of all the flash codes and their meaning can be found at:

http://www.pgdt.com/scenter/diagnostics/diagvsi.html

This is a terrific way to diagnose the problem with your chair. A technician will have a hand held programmer to read all the faults stored in the VSI controller log. This will give you an overall picture of the condition of all the electrical components of the chair, past and current faults. Hope this helps.

Jet 3 flashes "code 7".

The VSI joystick controller of the Jet 3 with a flash code of 7 LEDs flashing on the battery condition display indicates a possible joystick fault.
The most likely problem is with the joystick gimble. You can also get a 7 bar flash if the joystick is out of the neutral position at start-up.
Run the joystick in a circle and back and forth feeling for any sticky or broken/dead spots. Check to see if the spring and gimble come back to center when you release it. Turn off the VSI and try centering the joystick. Turn the VSI back on and see if you can get the fault to clear.
The only recourse is to have the unit rebuilt or replaced . A rebuilt VSI will run about $500 and a new one about $1600. For this reason it is best to check with your insurance before performing the work to see if its a covered item. Hope this helps

Metro power chair lights flash when turned on.. but will not move in any directions

The controller for this power wheelchair is a VSI controller made by Penny and Giles. The Everest and Jennings Metro Power III is distributed by Graham Field Health Products. The controller part number is #90762330.
To figure out what the flash code means go to the following website link for Penny and Giles(pgdt):
http://www.pgdt.com/scenter/diagnostics/diagvsi.html
This VSI service center color diagram is very useful. It will tell you the problem with the power chair. A service technician will have a PP1 hand held programmer that will give more detailed information, but this is a start. Check all your wiring connections/plugs and make sure your chair is fully charged. Hope this helps.

Lite Blinks continusleyon control ,chair will not move

I am assuming you have a Jet 7 with a VSI controller (manufactured by Penny and Giles) with a steady flash of all the speed and profile LEDs (lights). This is a no drive away feature of the VSI if the charger is plugged in. The older Penny and Giles controllers indicate the same flash code.

If you have an on- board charger check to see if it is plugged into the wall. If it is, unplug it and see if the chair runs. Sometimes, you have to remove the back cover and unplug the charger haress at the output of the charger inside the electronics housing (much more difficult). A failed on-board charger can inhibit the VSI controller (no drive away) even if it unplugged from the wall outlet. There is also a charger inhibit harness with a fuse that might have failed. A qualified technician can jumper this harness to bypass and test.

If you have an off-board charger unplug it from the wall or unplug it from the charging port in the front of the VSI. If the chair runs in either case you have a bad charger.

You may also have a bad VSI controller which can be rebuilt or replaced. Start with the basic charger unplug tests and then work your way to the VSI controller. Hope this helps.
