Periodically throughout the day my blackberry 8310 screen will go black and then an hourglass comes on a spins for what seems like forever. You probably need to update your software to the latest version. You can download it from your service provider or from RIM: www.blackberry.com

The screen whites out n only way to get it back is take battery out n let it start back up

Hi there

Whenever your screen goes white again just hit the ALT+RIGHT SHIFT+DEL your blackberry will reset itself. It will go black for about 2 to 4 seconds then you will see the famous blackberry hourglass. Be patient and in about 2 to 5 minutes your blackberry will reset.

Try freeing up some space on your blackberry by deleting some unecessary files and do not run too many applications at once.

  3. General Settings
  4. Menu
  5. Wipe handheld
Then restore,

My 8310 keeps going from the hourglass to black screen every 10 seconds or so

Magnetic damage or water damage is most likely the problem.

However it could have suffered from severe physical abuse or could even contain a virus, do you use the internet on it often?

Blackberry curve 8310 fatal error during backup

I would connect the device to a PC and update the OS using Desktop Manager. If you recently installed any application, I would uninstall it as this may cause this type of behavior.

Blackberry 8310

Are you sure it is shutting of? It might just be locking, if the screen goes blank after 10 minutes try pressing the * key and call key and it should unlock the screen.
