Disassembly of Gateway 610

The instructions for disassembly of the Gateway 610XL don't
work for the 610. Everything's OK until removing the back.
It cannot come off until the back cover is removed, and since
the object of disassembly is removal of the back cover, it's
a Catch 22 situation. The hinges on the back jam against
the back cover, and it can't be removed until the back is
removed. Can anyone help?

could you make that any more confusing? I have taken hundreds of computers apart, and could only get to the base tipped up, and connected still with the power supply plugged in so far in that if I unplug it, there is no way I could reach to plug it back in.

I need to know what graphics card to use to update

The Gateway 610 uses an AGP graphics slot so any video card with AGP hookup should work fine. The link below is to a parts site for this computer.

Please advise on how to remove the heat sink fan of a Gateway MX6920 laptop. Thanks.

Please download and follow official gateway disassembly instructions found at:

http://support.gateway.com/s/Mobile/Q106/BladeC/1009030ul.shtml

It should guide you through the disassembly process to a point where removing the fan should be no problem.

If you do not feel comfortable with electronics please contact a service center and have a pro do it for you.

Best of luck.

I would then suspect the monitor.
Sounds like the video card is working.
Try another monitor to see for sure.

Screen goes on and off

This is a well known issue with gateway media centre and there is no easy solution for this problem. If you are an expert in tearing apart the system and putting it back, then this LInk has some options which have worked to many people.

Gateway 610XL Disassembly

take cover off top of base.- pry off
remove two screws that hold speaker unit, it will tilt out, disconnect cables and remove speaker.
two screws on back of base and then take off back cover.remove sheild cover.
disconnect all cables. 4 screws hold power supply in.
rca connector board has little black button holding it on. pry up and then remove board to access connecters behind.
pull all cables out towards you.
remove 6 screws that hold base to back of screen, pull up tape under where cables go thru hole.
remove base from screen.
take out screws on back of screen. carefully pry all around case to seperate.
remove back, and then sheild. there are a few screws that hold it on.
If your screen was black, then the two inverter boards could be the problem. there is one in the upper left corner and one in the lower left corner. you can by them on internet. match the partnumber, there are 2 diffent ones.

Gateway Media Center PC is on, but there is no picture.

I have been fixing one for a customer. At first I thought that it was the typical burned out powersupply. Delta Electronics has created a replacement. The old REV 00 is 185 watts peak. The new REV01 is 185 nominal. Was the shaggy067 did not take the time to look up is that the 610 is an "All in one" modular monitor/case.
This customers is the first one that I have replace the power supply and it still does not work. I believe the flourescent backer of the LCD is shot. I will not know for sure until I find another one. The S-video works fine, so I am testing it using my projector. Everything works except the lcd panel.
