Dualit toaster short circuit

Have just replaced the middle element. Toaster worked fine for a couple of minutes but now there is an open circuit somewhere (it trips the fusebox). Ideas?

Is not an open curcuit but a short curcuit. Means that one of the wire conections you have made is either contact with toasters body or one contact is touching with other contact. So you need to have all contacts of the toaster from the bottom side to see if their are clear to each other or from the toasters body

SOURCE: Dualit combi heating element 12/95

All the element's are available on e-bay u.k. for about 6.00 gbp. Alternativley you may be able to repair it. Put the toaster on it's side with the bottom facing towards you and the knobs on the top. Remove the crumb tray and then remove the bottom (usually the screws are located in the feet). There may be one more visible screw remove that too, then you will see a rail at the bottom that secures the element's in place. Loosen off the nuts at each end and slide the rail down, undo the two bolt's feeding the power to the element's and slide the element out.Go over it with a continuity meter and see where it's broken then move the element wire about to bridge the circuit.Test it again and reassemble. I repaired mine this way.Or, simply replace the element using the instructions above.Easy!

Toaster: Dualit Domus DLT44... First one side now the other.. Dead!

Question edited for clarity, added full stops as Fixya removes formatting and line breaks.
Question moved from Cars and Trucks to correct make category.

The latching is normally dependent on the element working. If you have a multimeter, test continuity of the elements. replacing them is normally not easy as domestic toaster use crimped wires direct to the elements cassette. I have a brand new one in my garage for a Black and Decker toaster with 18 crimp wire tails.

I used Dualit and Rowlett commercial toasters at my hotel in Cornwall, England, and they were easy to repair, but Domestic toasters are really a non repairable / replacement option. Ask Dualit what they think?

I changed the element in my Dualit toaster; still doesn't work

If I understand well the blackened wire is an overheated wire which it is probably but off in one point so no electricity comes to the element anymore.
However overheated wire in you metalic toaster is a very danger thing to have and need to replace all the wires you have noticed that they changed color or not look good contition.
The problem have been caused from a problematic element which is the one you have already replaced.
However you if after you replace the wires you need to inspect the toaster after some time in order to be sure that not any other element causing the problem.
Good luck.

Out Dualit toaster keeps blowing the fuse. It's

Probably one wire Loosen up or a wire from one heating element have cut off and is contacting the metal body of the toaster. You need a good visual insect of your toaster, you may use a flush light to see inside the electriacl elents and also open the bottom base to insect the wire conections to the heating element.
I beleive one or more heating elements is the problem and you need to replace them.
Good Luck

Dualit lite 4 slice not working

It can be repaired. There is a short circuit inside may be of dust gathering on contacts or the contacts are worn out due to prolonged use thus touching the heating coil or body some where inside. Smell coming is definitely burning of wires inside. Open the toaster and you may be able to see the burning spot

The toast gets done on one side and not the other

No way to replace it your Dualit toaster is a toaster for life you just need to replace some element plates and this is normal every some years. My Dualit toaster is 18 years old I have replace a couple of times the element but is always working perfect and with st. steel finish look perfectly new and impresive.
Inside your toaster there are eight heating element plates six in the center and one in left end and one in right end.
Just switch on the toaster without any bread at maximum time and visualy inspect to see which side is becoming red and which not. Then you need to replace the element plates you see that they don't become red.
Remember that the two in center are the same called "CENTER" and the other two on ends are the same called "END"
They can easily be removed if you remove the bottom panel.
Good Luck
