Snow blower starts right up but dies once i engage the blades?

It starts right up. But once the blades start it runs for a few seconds then dies. THis also happens sometime with the auger put into drive. It just dies?

Hi,

it is possible the engine is starving for fuel, so essentially it is a carburetor problem with fuel mixture.
Check and see if your carburetor has mixture adjustment needles, there may be an adjustment possible to fix this problem.
Also, sometimes a tiny vent hole in the carb caseing gets clogged causing the engine to run rough or stall.
Does your engine seem to run better if you close the Choke ?

Have a gravel driveway bought a Ariens 24 Snow Thro adjusted skid shoes to lift machine, is the scraper blade also adjustable, it is throwing a lot of rocks?
Yes, they are all adjustable. Loosen the hardware, Find something to use as a shim... a few paint can stirrers.. put them under the Scraper to lift it about 3/8" then tighten the hardware. See how that helps the stone throwing. Gravel driveways are tough for Blowers and Plows...It's best to actually leave snow on the driveway to pack down and form a Base. Then the next snow will be stone free.

Auger blades are spinning
sound like you might have 2 problems. If auger doesn't engage in heavy snow you probably just have ice accumulation inside the impeller. Dont try to engage until impeller is cleared of snow (shut off and unplug spark plug before cleaning) Second if blades are spinning than you must have hit something in your path and broke the shear bolt (about 2 bucks at hardware shop) remove the old bolt and replace it and it should work again if this is the problem. Engin wont stay running after it starts
How long does it run? A few seconds or minutes? Sounds fuel related. Generally rebuilding or replacing the carburetor will fix it if it starts and dies after a few seconds. If it runs for a few minutes then we need to look at something else for the issue

Snow blower 1 year old, was using it ran out of gas , put in new gas, went to start, it ran for few seconds then dies,, prime it it runs few seconds dies, has NEW gas ans new plug, only runs for seconds...
If it has a fuel filter on it change it and that should get you going again. If not the dirt that was in the tank is prob in the carb cleaning the fuel bowl and jets should get you up to par. Hope that helps

Snow blower won't stay running
ok heres what you do to get your snow blower to keep running.
while you have it choked, and you get it to the running point, turn the cup bowl ajustment in/out a fraction at a time while you move the chock off slowly till you get the right setting to keep it running then ajust the setting once more to clear it up to purrr like a kitten again the vibration moves the screw out to set everything out of wack......
