Once you have Songbird installed, launch it and select "Repair my Philips device" in the Tools menu. Select your device and follow the instructions specific to your device. For example, instructions for the GoGear Vibe are to disconnect the device, power it down completely, and hold the volume-up key during and after USB connection until the message window disappears.
If the repair utility endlessly indicates it is checking for updates, you are likely using an out-of-date version of Songbird - probably the one that came with your GoGear. If this describes your situation, launch Songbird and select "Check for updates" in the Help menu. This will at least get you upgraded to version 1.9 (currently), even though the latest version is 1.11 (currently).
Instructions that came with some older versions for connecting GoGear in repair mode were incomplete. They left out a crucial step of turning off the GoGear and waiting for it to power down completely before reconnecting in repair mode. Newer versions of Songbird include the ability to reformat the device, reset the device, and to get progress updates during synchronization.

Hi! When you repaired your mp3 player you formatted it with ntfs file system but your player needs fat32 file system. Don't be upset just plug in your mp3 player again with your PC and reformat it by changing the file system to FAT 32. Hope this helps.

Hi bysvraju...
Try this method...
************************ Go to Device Manager To get to Device Manager you will: Right click on My Computer>Properties>click the Hardware Tab>Device Manager. After you are in Device Manager look for your MP3 player or Unit. Here you should see no "Yellow" exclamation points. If you do they they are telling you that you have a device conflict. If you currnetly have your unit plugged in, you may notice the "unknown device" which would be your Player or Unit. If you unit has an exclamation point by it, then you will need to click on it and delete it. After you remove all devices with conflicts then click on refresh and search again for your MP3 player/Device. The computer should install your device this time and solve your problem with connection of the MP3 player/Device. Please take time to rate me thumbs up.
If you have a Philips HDD Series, it will not work with Windows Vista or Windows Media Player 11 except for briefly, then the player will stop working one day. Your only hope is to use it with Windows XP and Windows Media Player 10 - it is, basically, an obsolete player at this point in time.

Make sure you back up all songs on the GoGear before attempting this solution. 1) Back up all files on the GoGear 2) Open up Philips Device Manager (Start --> All Programs --> Philips) 3) Click on the Repair Tab, and look for a msg that says connect the player while holding the volume + button 4) Disconnect the GoGear from the computer and turn the GoGear off - hold in the volume + button and continue to hold it as you reconnect the GoGear to the computer; after holding the volume + button for up to 20 or 30 seconds, a window will open up saying that your device is being repaired (now you can let go of the volume + button); after the repair is successfully complete, your GoGear will be good as new Now you can do the firmware upgrade that will prevent this problem from occuring in the future. Open up Philips Device Manager and click the Update tab. This problem was caused because most GoGear's were designed for Windows XP with Media Player 10 (which is no longer the latest standard). -Tha Mp3 Doctor
