We took our insinkerator 444-3 off to fix it (it was humming), and now we can't get it reattached.
If your motor was humming, and the cutter disk rotated freely, then replace disposal with same brand so it fits without removing the sink basket.
It is always best to take a few photos before taking something apart.
That being said, You probably need to lift the disposal higher and evenly so the ring can grab the disposal body.
Get a small jack. Put wood block on bottom of disposal so jack does not break disposal. Use jack to list disposal into exact position for reattachment.

Detach
the ends of the pedals from the crank axles. Spread a layer of
machine grease over the crank axles, then reattach the ends of the
pedals.

Remove
the bolts connecting the pedals to the swing arms. Detach the pedals
from the arms, then spread a layer of machine grease over the axles
on the swing arms. On some models, the bolts may also serve as the
axles. Reattach the pedals to the arms.

Remove the bolts connecting the swing arms to the elliptical's upright. Detach the swing arms from the upright, then spread a layer of machine grease over the axles on the upright. Reattach the arms to the upright.
