GE jvm1653sh01 range lights won't turn off

Got a short at or in the switch assembly that is causing this and unit would have to be unpowered and checked to see if one or both switches are bad.

Microwave light stays on and unit won't heat/run

If it's not heating at all, the magnetron is to blame.

My surface light bulb burned out and I replaced it with a new bulb. But now the bulb stays lit and it won't turn off even though I turn it off from the light switch. Please help.

The only fix for it is to either buy another control board $300+ or if you are any good at wiring you can go the the hardware store get a manual toggle switch and install it under the microwave on the right hand side near the control area. But make sure the switch can handle the heat rising from the stove burners. We have about 120 of the microwaves on our properties and 6 of them have this issue. The relay internal switch becomes corroded and binds together from steam and boiling water. GE is JUNK.

I replaced the outside/night lights on my Kenmore microwave and the lights stay on. They are 3 settings, high, night and off and they do not cycle through, they are always on and won't shut off

This is a shorted relay on the control circuit board, which we normally repair for $39.95 nationwide.

At our Web site, you can get details of our service, plus we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

The lights can can be inoperable or stuck on or stuck in "night light" mode. Sometimes this will similarly affect the fan operation or inside light, too.

The light won't come on when we open the door and when you try to set a time for it to cook, the light inside comes on for about a second then goes off, so it won't cook anything. We did turn it...

Yes, I know you probably already got rid of the microwave oven but maybe this can help others. I had the exact same problem, it turned out one of the door switches desoldered itself from the PCB, leaving an ugly black PCB.

All I needed to do is remove the dirty residu by wiping and polishing with a simple pencil eraser and drill away the burned part of the PCB and resolder the switch using a piece of wire to the right PCB track. The switches probably are ready for repleacement and I did notice the relay on the other PCB also looked bad (Ormon G2R-1A-E 12VDC) you might wan to replace that.

All in all it is wise to look for something new.
If you want to fix it, also have a look at the vents on the underside just behind the controls. There is a big chance these are clogged.

Have a kitchenaid microwave KHMS2040WSS brand new. Is there a way to set the popcorn sensor for a smaller bag? Right now it is set for 3.5oz and burns all the popcorn.

I have never seen a microwave that doesn't burn popcorn if you use the "popcorn" button. Why the manufacturers keep putting them on I'll never understand. There's nothing you can do change the presets on an oven since they are built into the controller. Instead of relying on the oven, you should follw the directions on the bag. These tell you to use high power, stay by the oven and stop the cooking when the time between pops drops to 1 or 2 seconds. Stored heat will continue to pop kernels for a bit, and you won't cremate your popcorn. You'll also avoid the possibility of the bag catching fire and damaging the oven, which I have seen several times. Finally, don't expect 100% of the kernels to pop. There wil always be a few duds, and extending the cooking time just results in burned popcorn.

Burning smell and light switch does not work

The controller needs to be repaired. We regularly repair these control board assemblies for only $32.50 nationwide, and that's much cheaper than replacing the board. For safety, disassembly and other info see http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk
