Hp simplesave not recognized xp
NO PC stated ! (impossible to help much)?
No simplesave model stated, some are huge hdd others not. some are ssd.? matters big time what is there.
power is FIRST>! no power no joy
does the actual drive removed work inside any PC? yes/no? (it is SATA drive actually there, simple)
if no,it's bad. if yes?, the external needs help. (ask)
SIMPLESAVE is just external HDD./ this

did you forget to USE THE HP power pack to it?
no huge 1TB hdd, will run lacking that, impossible
but easy for SSD and 1/2 the time with 2.5" drives.
it weights 2.2lbs so is 3.5" large HDD like I have
I've built 3 from scratch, (USB3 -Esata too)
lots of models of simplesave, or 10 years.
some have power pack, (2 lb drive) above, .
others none, and thin and light.
the problems are manifold
1: using USB1.1 port, ? try them all ?
2: using USB2 but DM shows it is only 100mA port or 500ma? (works on 2.5" but not 3.5" drives)
3; power pack not plugged, in
4: ;unstated OS infected or USB ports dead, (drivers bad)
making the 3.5" drives HDD, work can be hard.
cures here.

if yours is the tiny one, 2.5" test it on all USB ports , if fail try other PC, with 500mA ports
work now good, no the HDD is bad,
test HDD removed now.
ive been running huge HDD external since the first ones ever, and never have problems, (I build my own)
first test is :
make sure USB finds it. in Device manager.
then see if diskmanagment, shows it.
if it does and no drive letter , then give it one.
Your selected category identifies an HP Pavillion dv9000z laptop, but your problem describes a desktop with Windows NT. And is this Windows NT 4.0, or Window 2000?
