I have a problem with my brand new top load washer. The hot water cycle is only luke warm. I was told by the technician who came out that the hot water cycle uses cold water in it too causing the water to not be hot. He says its because the newer detergents don't require hot water. Is that true?
Even though that may be the case, he was feeding you a line a BS. If you have the machine set for hot only, then only hot water should flow, assuming you have hot water coming from the hot water heater. If it is mixing hot and cold then the selector is sending an open signal to both hot and cold water solenoids, where is should send to hot only. Call the costumer suport line for your GE and tell them what he told you, they will send out a new tech.

I have never heard of this before, and have always piped dishwashers off the hot water line. Not to say it could not be done the other way, I would refer to the instructions that came with the dishwasher, and if they say to connect to the hot water line, to have the technician come back and fix it. If it says to connect to cold water line, then manufacturers know best.....Hope this helps

Cold water pipe had become frozen. FYI this model of washer has a nice feature whereas you can test each component i.e. valves, by setting the timer and reading the LED's on the front panel. Instructions are in the schematic.

The water diverter could be plugged. or the diverters solinoid has gone bad on the hotwater side. It is located on the diverter itself.

remove lower kick panel and check wire connections to heater. 2 wires go to heater terminals and a harness connector goes to temp sensor in middle of heat terminals. may be green ground connection on another term. use multimeter and check resistence on heater. during cycle heater will take time to heat.
