I have the same issue - remind me NEVER to buy another Xerox product...

  • Anonymous Sep 10, 2008

Exactly the same problem here. Monitor 2 1/2 years old. Turn on - screen goes white, then black for a brief moment, then white again and stays white. Used to be able to 'fix' it by re-starting the computer, but this no longer works either.

  • Anonymous Sep 26, 2008

I also have the same issue, Sad but I'm happy its fixable I kind of
liked this monitor. But then again it was my only monitor I know no
    different.

Same problem here, off to Maplins to buy the capacitors recommended. Has anyone had any success with the expertly detailed response to the problem?

  • Anonymous Nov 20, 2008

Yes - replacing the capacitors fixed it for me! Many thanks!

  • Anonymous Dec 02, 2008

Hello! I have tried to fix my screen by following the explanation above. Works fine until I get to the capacitators. The explanation says remove 1 capacitator 220 uF and 6 capacitators 470 uF. The problem is that I only find 2 470 uF's. But I do find 4 1000 uF capacitators. Are those the ones I should change?

Great solution anyway, I will propably change all in case noone knows.

    Thanks a lot!

    Regards!

I had the same 'white screen' problem. I followed the instructions on this site to replace 6 x 470uF 25V and 1 x 220uF 25V radial electrolytic capacitors on the power supply board and the screen now works perfectly again. Many thanks to the person who solved this problem.

I had the same problem but fortunately I have two of these monitors so could fiddle with the menus on the working monitor until I could work out how to fix it on the one with the white screen problem. Here's what you do:-

With the monitor on and the white screen showing press MENU, then UP 7 times, then MENU and presto! Your screen will be back to normal.

What this does is change the input from ANALOG to DIGITAL (or vice versa!) either way this worked for me.

I have resolved this problem by replacing 6 x 470uF 25V and 1 x 220uF 25V radial electrolytic capacitors on the power supply board inside the monitor casing.

DISCONNECT FROM THE MAINS BEFORE ATTEMPTING ANY INTERNAL REPAIRS!
1] Remove single large screw holding elliptical foot to case.
2] Remove 2 x small cross headed screws at bottom of case at rear.
3] Sit monitor with rear of case on your lap and push firmly on the bottom edge of the glass screen (the edge with buttons on it). It is a tough job but eventually the plastic retaining pegs click free and you can slide the glass screen away from the monitor screen itself. TAKE CARE NOT TO PUT FINGER MARKS ON LCD SCREEN FRONT!
4] Remove 6 screws around edge of LCD screen frame holding LCD frame to case body.
5] Carefully lift using edge of LCD frame the LCD screen away from the case body and you will see 2 pairs of white plugs and sockets feeding the LCD and 1 large multi-way plug on a braided screened cable (covered by self-adhesive aluminium foil).
6] Using a marker pen (small tip size!) mark each white plug and socket so that you can replace each plug into its original socket when you have to re-assemble things!
7] CAREFULLY peel back the aluminium foil and gently, but firmly pull the multi-way connector out of its socket.
8] Place complete LCD screen in a SAFE PLACE!
9] Looking into case body you'll see a metal box cover. Remove screws to enable cover plate to be lifted off. Reveals psu and other electronics PCB.
10] Remove 4 cross headed screws holding small psu PCB in place and lift away. Note small PCB mounted plug/socket along one edge.
11] Locate and replace the 6 x 470uf and 1 x 220uF capacitors.
12] Reassemble in reverse order.

Voila, a working monitor! Total cost to me here in the UK was £2.61 including postage for parts!

Hope this helps anyone else with similar white screen problems!

A HP Pavilion had the same white screen problem. You can determine whether it is the computer or the monitor by connecting a known good monitor to the computer to see if the monitor works. If you have another known good vga cable, I would use that also in the test. As it turned out, the other known-good monitor worked and the HP did not. I am inclined to believe that as others have written that this is a hardware problem not easily fixed and it's cheaper to buy a new monitor.

Sadly this fix did not work for me, even after replacing the large 100uF 400V cap and the 47uF cap next to it in addition to the others! Any one got a spare backlight??
What may help others trying this fix is that when you come to remove the glass front after removing the two screws at the back it is much easier to lay the unit on its back with the bottom facing you. Then, whilst gently pushing the glass bottom, use a flat bladed screwdriver to prise the back cover downwards 1 - 2 mm at the centre. The glass will then slide up easily for removal.
Thanks anyway for the fix, and good luck to anyone else trying it.

the 100 uf should be 25v not 400 and the single 1 should be 220uf 25v not 47uf

I bought capacitors from maplin but they didn't have 25v - the assistant said they had 35v and this would be fine. put them in but becuase they are bigger the circuit board wont slot back into the plug - the top of the capacitors stick out too much with the bigger size... so need to find a smaller size

I have struggled with the same problem for weeks. I eventually found a site where the concensus was that it was a hardware failure and it would be cheaper to replace than fix. PC World help desk concurred and said that this kind of failure is not limited to Xerox screens.

I replaced it and the new screen works pefectly (so not an adapter / driver problem).

Not really what you all want to hear I know, but....

How to make laptop power up correctly. Instead of white screen. The lights go on and the PC makes its usual noises but only a white screen.

Wild guess with such a small amount of unused space your system has no room to "play with". Your Idle time "repair"
may indicate Hard drive issues. If you have critical data on the drive you need to backup. I would put the laptop in the freezer if you can find space, overnight. Then try to boot to "safe mode" F8 key I believe. Do Hdd error check. Worst case, you may need to reinstall operating system with potential loss of data.

Blank white screen in my Acer Travelmate 5730 Laptop

Hello Karthik,
This must surely be a problem with your monitor, because you say that you see the white screen while boot up. If this is a graphic driver issue, you may have the problem after booting up in windows. Since its been only a month old laptop, the product must be in warranty for sure. Take away any CDs in the drive, any USB drives and see if this white screen appears. Let us know.

Thank you!

Vertical lines on my 40 inch lcd mitsubishi hdtv 1080

Similar problem with an eleven and a half month old LT-40148. Approx. 1 inch vertical banding line on left side of screen on all inputs. After about two weeks, same problem on the right side of the screen.

Fortunately this occurred two weeks prior to the one year warranty expiring.

Called Mits customer service and they referred me to an authorized service center who I happened to have dealt with before.

They picked up the set. The front panel (LCD screen ) had to be replaced. Set was gone for two weeks as parts were not in stock. There was no charge. I hope this screen last more than a year.

Xerox xa7 19" lcd monitor

That means that you have a defective inverter board.

The inverter is a small power board that power up the LCD backlight lamp, determining light intensity, when it is like that, the inverter is defective and must be replaced.
