It may not protrude upward like conventional dipsticks, but is located in a cap that is flush with the transmission. It is this way on my 1997 Cadillac Deville Limousine which has a 4.6 L Northstar Engine.
I found out where it was when I had the transmission fluid flushed and filled.
You do not have to remove the heads or engine. You need a support fixture to hold the engine, then you need to remove the cradle (small frame that supports the engine on the bottom) The transmission can now be removed. Unless you have the equipment it could be very dangerous to do this without a lift, transmission jack and support fixture. bluebirdmate (transmission weighs approximately 500 pounds)
it should be right under the air filter . or in the area. u will probly have to remove the air filter to see it its a black cap about 2inches in diamator.
either inlet manifold or head gasket, big job best advice is to trade it in against the goverments trade in plan and buy a new small car like a VW polo or beetle or a mini ,or better still a citreon C3 diesel ,60mpg on this vehicle think of the saving on petrol and the enviroment
Follow the upper radiator hose to the point where it enters the motor. Disconnect it at that housing and remove the bolts holding the housing in pace. Remove the housing and all of the old gasket. The thermostat sits under that housing and just pops right out. Install the new one along with a new gasket. Put everything back in the reverse order.
Yes, most front wheel drive vehicles need to have the subframe removed in order to removed the transmission and this is no exception. Are you sure this is a 4t-60, I thought it was a 4t-80. I could be thinking of a different year I guess.
