I loaned my Rio 600 MP4 player to a 12-year-old (bad idea) and it came back with a broken power switch and a cracked battery holder. The switch slider feels like it's not connected to the switch inside the case, so the kid probably tried to pry it off or something. It would be a simple fix if I cound get the case open, but I can't seem to find any instructions on how to do that. Once the battery is removed, three quick-release tabs appear on the right side, but popping these open does not fully free up the back cover. It appears to be held on by two screws, but the heads on these screws are really weird. There is no slot, Philips head, hex, or Torx. Only a perfectly round indentation with no obvious way to grip the screw and turn it. Has anyone successfully gotten one of these open? If so, can you provide instructions how to do it? Thanks.
They are Hex head screws. You need a small (1.3MM or .050)
Hex head bit or Allen wrench. After removing the two screws the case will split. However the problem I'm having is figuring out how to re-attach the switch. It's a very odd connection.

Most of the following suggestions can be checked by visual inspection while manually operating the mechanism with the scooter off:
Bad "normally closed" contacts in the switch (check using ohmmeter);
Bent, cracked or worn switch actuator or actuator spring (if present);
Broken or cracked switch housing;
Broken, cracked or bent switch bracket;
Intermittent break in switch wiring;
Corroded wiring terminal (check the other end of the switch wiring cable also!).
I've never seen the seat switch on one of these, so those are all the ideas I can think of that would be consistent with my experience.
Hi, I found the following info on the Rio site, hope it helps you.
They qoute a fixed rate of 99$, i'm not sure it's worth it in your case... maybe you should find a repair person with good hands that can help with it. here's the info :
"out-of-warranty returns can be replaced for a fixed cost to you. The out-of-warranty fee for your ÂRio Carbon player is $99. Please note, at this time we do not REPAIR defective or broken units; we will REPLACE them. You can purchase a replacement unit at http://system.s2gstore.com/site/RioAudio/mp3playerssale.htm.
For units that are in warranty, this process is known as a ?Swap-Ship? because when the defective unit is returned to Rio by you we swap it for a replacement unit (send a replacement to you). If you are interested in participating in the out-of-warranty program, please reply or contact Rio Audio Customer Support at (254) 299-2759 and we will issue a Return Merchandize Authorization (RMA) letter to you with further instructions.
