Uniden DCT648 register phone problem

I have the base unit, 3 charging units and 4 handsets. All 4 handsets currently have "Place handset on Main base to register" on the their LCDs. All handsets are fully charged after 20+ hours of charging. When I place the handsets on the base to register the phone I receive a "Registration failed" readout on the phones. I have tried registering the phones in excess of 20 times for each individual phone. The handsets and base all have matching number formats (I'm guessing these are model, manufacturing and serial numbers). There are no buttons that will work individually on the phones (although the keypad will light up). I have also tried pressing the "end" and "#" keys simulaneously with no result. The base will answer phone calls on the intercom. Any assistance to activate the phones would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

my phone keeps saying sim registration failed i don't know why because it was working perfect before. but i think was playing around network settings.

The base unit is showing an error code E1. I can't find anywhere in the handbook what this stands for or what to do and of course it is a weekend and Tech Support is closed. I have unplugged it and waited an hour before plugging it back in. It still reads the same code.

i have 2 phones uniden2.4 with 3 phones for each base i accidently put one phone on the wrong base it now says phone number 4 it actualy went to the other base. how do i get it to reprogram to the base it belongs to?

  • Anonymous Feb 14, 2009

I followed the "best solution" which worked for me. Although on my model phone the eeprom reset did not follow the routine as describe. The part that did work however, was unplugging the base unit, then holding delete and powering it back on again. It beeped. I hit del a couple of times and then put the phone back on. All good! :)

charged headset and led is blue when headset is in charger. When taken out it flashes red then blue, alternating between red and blue
I have tried pushing reset button and no change
headset wont register and useless uniden instructions tell you nothing about trouble shooting

From any of the other phones simply press the MENU button go down to SYSTEM RESET and hit SELECT. Then choose Deregister HS and choose the one that is giving you the problem. Once deregistered, place the phone on the base and it will now register.

I do not have a system reset option either on the base or the handset. I tried the eeeprom delete thing and that did not work. THere is no option to deregister the handset either

I had a very similar situation and I did solve it. You have to have at least one phone that is correctly registered. You press "menu", go to "system reset" (press "select" key), go to "Replacing base" (press "select" key), go to yes (press "select" key). Now all of your phones need to be reregistered, but that worked fine for each. Apparently it has to release all of the old registration data before it accepts new phones. As the other user (and I followed his advice first) said, good luck in solving your electronic problems.

    I had same problem solved it using above instructions and after clearing EEPROM. Here's what I did;
Using one phone that is correctly registered.
    1) Press "menu" --> "system reset", press "select" key
    2) Choose "Replacing base", press "select" key
    3) Choose"yes", press "select" key.
    4) Placed HS ( the one that I used to replace base) on the base. It successfully registered in 10-15 seconds.
    5) Placed HS that I had problems registering on the base. Bingo! It registered in 10-15 seconds.
    6) Checked my other two HS and I did not need to register them.

I have contacted Uniden about solving this problem. They suggested I clear the eeprom on the handsets and reset the base. To clear the eeprom detach all of the batteries and reattach while holding the star and pound. You'll hear a beep. Press select and the unit will clear the eeprom. Now hit end and the unit will say "Welcome...something or other". Next unplug the base unit reattach while holding delete. Next hit delete twice...the base is reset. Apparently this is the last possible solution to marrying the handsets and base. This didn't work for me and the units have been declared dead. Good luck in solving your electronic problems.

If you are having trouble getting a message Registration Failed you may have to deregister an old handset no longer in use to make room on the system for the new handset

How do i add another handset "uniden 6.0" phone to an existing phone and base unit of the same brand.I need the step-by-step instructions please. thank you!

First make to get a compatible handset.

For the Uniden D1660-2, the compatible handsets are DCX160 and DWX337. Make sure that you have not exceeded the number of handsets that the phone can support. The D1660-2 can support 12 handsets unless you use any DWX337 handsets. Then the limit is 6. (If you have more handsets, you will need to deregister some of them first.) Then allow the handset to charge. If the handset is reading "not registered", then place it into the base unit. You should see "Handset Registering" for about 30 seconds; then it will read Registration Complete. The manual for the Uniden D1660-2 is available here: http://www.uniden.com/content/ebiz/uniden/resources/ownersmanuals/D1660-2om.pdf . This is the most common Registration for Uniden phones; there are a few exceptions (depending on the base or the replacement handset). Check the appropriate manual (see below to find the manuals).

For the DECT4096, press Menu on the base and then navigate to Handset Register. When you see Handset Registering on the base display, press and hold # on the handset to be registered until you see Handset Registering. (It takes about 2 seconds.) After the display changes to Handset Registered, check for dial tone.

On a few Uniden phones, there is a Page/Handst Register button on the base. On those you navigate through the Handset menu to Handset Register (Menu > Handset menu > Handset Registration). Then press and hold the Page button until you hear a beep. Then wait for the registration to be completed.

Most Uniden manuals are available here: http://www.uniden.com/scat/cordlessphones_mnl . Select your type of Uniden phone and scroll through the list to your model or use the search box to directly search for your phone and the manual.

I hope this helps.

I have Uniden DECT1480-3. I purchased two expandable handsets, but I cannot figure out how to get the new handsets to register with the base unit.

Up to 6 handsets can be registered with the DECT 1480 phones. I have the 5 phone unit and needed to add the 6th phone. All I got was "Searching" in the display and the battery wouldn't even charge!

So here's what you have to do to get additional phones (up to 6 units) to work with the base. If you can get past step 1, it's a snap...

Step 1: Place a charged battery in the handset. This could be a problem if all your handsets are not registered, since unregistered phones don't charge (who thought of that design?). What I did was SWAP the battery from an already registered and charged phone with the new unregistered phone.

Step 2: Here's where the magic happens. Press the 'END' and '#' keys simultaneously... hold them down until a System Reset menu appears. Select "Deregister HS" and press Menu.

Step 3: Now, do the same thing again (hold down END and #), but this time select Base Unavailable and press Menu. You will see Base Unavailable Yes/No... Select Yes. Then place the handset in the base, wait a few seconds, and Voila!. it's registered. You can even change handset numbers using this menu if you play around with it.

Thank you, helpful employee at Costco for supplying the magic code. And hey there, UNIDEN... including this in the operation manual would have saved many customers much grief with de-registered phones!

Enjoy!

SOLUTION:

1. First, remove the battery cover on your unregistered TCX905 and look under the battery to confirm that you indeed purchased a TCX905 because some Uniden handsets were packaged as 905's but were not.

2. Take the fully charged unregistered 905 to the base unit TRU9496.

3. On the TRU 9496 base unit press "Menu" then select "Registration" and press OK

4. You should get the message "press the # key on the remote handset".

5. Depress the "#" key on the unregistered 905 and it should register.

Uniden handset TCX905 with base unit TRU8866-if compatible?

I just successfully registered 4 TCX905s with my TRU8865 base - it's documented in the TCX905 manual.

Be sure the handset you want to register is fully charged.

Remove the handset you want to register from its charger.

Now unplug the AC for the main base, hold down the 'find handset' key on the base and plug the AC in again, when it beeps, you can let go of that button.

Hold down the '#' on the handset you want to register, it will show 'Registering Handset...' and when it beeps, it's done - registered, you're good to go :)
