The clock is chip, as in the intel south bridge
in the olden days it was a RTC chip but now is buried deep in the SB.:all part of "intel inside" magic or AMD if is.

it is called a real time clock that is just like a wrist watch LCD watch.and the chip inside it. RTC,
tHE BATTERY keepS IT from forgetting all time and dates and year.
by a COIN cell battery , so the NVRAM never goes dead..
the coin below 2.9vdc is on the cliff of deathh(sic)
3.3vdc new.

NOT ONE POSTER TOLD HOW FAR OFF IT WAS
SO ANSWERS CAN BE WRONG. LIKE THAT.
The natural accuracy is abut 0.1% so will drift fast or slow by that error. The cure is NIST.gov.
atomic time clock sync'd up.
also if time goes way off windows loves to go into SSL certificate H3LL mode. (thinks it's being hacked )_
the coin life spec is 5 to 7 years,
OEM said that, Intel did and the coin cell maker too. so learn it.
I use a voltmeter, and not guess.

The same $1 coin is sold for auto keyfobs too..
CR2032, on desktop easy
laptops can be 30 screws to reach or just under a 1 screw hatch. (on laptops read the service manual and bingo for RTC CMOS coin cell.

Even i had this problem..i tried changing my battery.. but later thought it was a virus..but while it wasn't so.. it had time update on..because of which the moment it connects through net it resets the time.. you must be facing any of such problems only..try fixing your problem with changing batery only.. pen up your side panel and you will find a small battery..take out that and fix a new battery. all the old records of time and date will be automatically reset.. so this time when you swich on your computer press 'de;' to entr set up and then go to BIOS settings and there change the date and time to the normal.. i guess this helps you out.. belated Merry X-mas and Happy New Year :)

Computers have an internal battery on the motherboard that helpd the board retain certain data when the computer is off. If the battery is low or dead it will cause this problem. The easiest way to replace the battery is to open the side of the computer when it is off and remove the battery from the battery holder on the motherboard. The battery looks just like a watch battery. Replace it with the same kind of battery (available at most drug stores) once you have replaced it turn on your computer and reset your clock.

Clock not accurate

Hello,

If the clock keeps on getting out - dated, the most probable cause would be the CMOS battery. It is a small circular battery that is located on the motherboard that keeps the time and of your system up to date even when it is turned off. Replace the battery and it should work fine.

Cheers!

My computer time and date keeps resetting itself to a different time. I'm connected to the internet but that is all. Why does it do this?

the clock microchip inside you motherboard is run by a small lithium battery model # CR2032 ( the size of a small coin) this is embeded in the motherboard, this can be replaced with a new one by removing the PC's cover and looking for it on the motherboard .....once replaced the clock can be re-set to the current time....once the machine displays the Desktop screen....

Clock needs to be reset every time I switch on.

There are 3 reasons for that.
  1. Your CMOS battery ran out of charge. You may have to replace it. (Note: You can check whether it has no charge by using a Muti-meter or your mouth).
  2. You are Synchronizing the Clock from a Different Time Zone. Double click on Time panel in the task bar. Go to Time Zones and check. Check the Internet Time to check whether you Synchronize with a proper Time Server. (Note: You can try to start the PC without internet and check whether the time is changing)
  3. You have installed a Patch / Crack to a Software and it resets your Timer. Probably a Patch to an Anti Virus Software, Game or any other Application. You may have to Remove it to keep the clock Steady if it matters you.
If anything gives negative results what you have to do is to check the Event Viewer for any System/ Application related errors. To get the Event Viewer: Start -> Run (or hit Win key + R) and type in Eventvwr.msc and hit Enter key. Go to System and Application and Sort them using Date / Time (usually it is the default). Then watch for errors related with the System Clock. (Note: errors are in the color of Red with an X mark. Warnings are Yellow with an ! mark). If you are unable to understand let me know. You can Copy and Paste Here.

Sony vaio vgn-fs775p laptop real time clock not keeping time

Hi

thank you for your query

If the time is not keeping up then it would seem that you will need to change your CMOS battery, this is a small battery found on the motherboard responsible for clocking etc

The battery is cheap to purchase, however I do highly recommned the laptop be booked into a reputable PC shop for replacement as you will need to take the whole laptop apart to get the motherboard

I hope this has been helpful

RCA model DRC8335 Loosing the date and time

That will be a problem from the text side of the broadcast, the clock is set from the text transmission, ( in other words a problem from the transmitter ) possibly due to digital switchover or work on the transmitters. One possible solution would be to turn off auto clock setting, and/or auto summer time adjustment.

Not keeping time

Go into the BIOS by pressing F2 when you first turn on the laptop. In the main screen you should be able to change the time and date. After you do that save the changes and exit and go into windows and see if the date and time is current.

Let me know how it goes.

Clock system getting to late

Yes, this battery maintains the laptop BIOS information including the date and time. If the time slows down it indicates the battery is nearly flat and needs replacing.
