Installation problem Dear Sir, While i installing windows XP to COMPAQ Laptop it is not installing, it says your harddrive is not installing in your computer. i wanted to know what is the reason.Laptop having Windows vista operating system.

When you boot from your XP Installation CD, make sure you delete the primary partition, recreate it, then format C: with NTFS.

check the kind of Hard disk if SATA ,,change sata mode to ATA or disable sata mode on bios

You require Xp Pro that supports SATA - standard Xp is IDE - you must aquire a copy of Xp that is SATA compatible.

its the feature of microsoft that it would not let install win xp on a computer with vista. what u can do is completely format the computer and use bootable xp cd and install .

please check your cables and try with new one.check the bios setting
