SOURCE: I disassembled the pump but I can't get the impeller off. It's stripped and needs replacing. I don't want to force it and break something else. What is the best way to remove the impeller? It's the No

I broke the outer circle of the impeller off with a screw driver and then used a Dremel tool to cut the plastic down to the shaft so I could break if off the threaded shaft.

SOURCE: trying to replace motor cant figure out how to remove impeller,

Might be a screw in middle of impeller with reverse thread. If so, remove. Remove back cover of motor, hold center shaft with wrench and unscrew impeller from shaft.

SOURCE: I have a Hayward Northstar

wow, thats odd. If you replaced every seal/o-ring and its still leaking its gotta be 1 of 2 things

You installed the shaft seal wrong- no disrespect, just a possibility

or there is a hairline crack somewhere you are missing...

Testimonial: "The shaft seal ould be a possibility but I think I'm OK there. However, I did check the pump again today and there was NO LEAK. Thanks anyway"

SOURCE: frozen impeller. What is

NOT ALL THE TIME THERE IS TWO TYPES, ONE HAS BRASS THREADS THE OTHER IS ALL PLASTIC, WHEN YOU UN-SCREW (LEFT) HOLD SHAFT AT BACK OF MOTOR WITH 7/16 WRENCH, PLASTIC IMPELLERS ON THE SMALL MOTORS CAN BE REUSED . BUT ON A 1.5 AND BIGGER.IT'S A MUST TO REPLACE IT WITH THE BRASS THREADED IMPELLER. I THINK YOU WILL FIND THAT THE MOTORS ROTOR IS LOCKED UP AND WILL NEED TO BE REBUILT, YOU MAY BE ABLE TO ROCK THE IMPELLER, AND WITH SOME LUCK FREE THE MOTOR.. GOOD LUCK, AND PRIME THAT PUMP AFTER ANY PUMP REPAIR !!.. JAY THE POOL PUMP REPAIR GUY IN LONGWOOD FLORIDA..

I replaced impeller and the housing cover doesn't fit

Compare old and new impellers, the new one must be bigger. Return it for the correct one.

I am rebuilding a Northstar pump. I thought I had an o-ring between the diffuser and the impeller ring when disasembling. I don't see the on the schematic however.

The impeller ring moves freely and does not use an o ring. The front of the diffuser does have one. It sounds like they gave you an extra. BTW I have found that Northstar pumps get about 4 years out of their motors. That is about half the average life. I hope you are getting longer than 4 years. If not, it may be worth changing to a different pump.

My Hayward Northstar 1.5 HP pump is pumping water into the pool, but not at full flow rate. This started happening after I cleaned out the filter basket that was plugging off the pump. The cap seems to...

you may have some debris in the impeller. you'll have to separate the wet end from the motor and access the impeller to see if it is partially plugged with debris. Northstar pumps have a closed face impeller that can trap debris at the opening and slow flow dramatically.

I'm trying to remove the motor from the back of my Hayward pump (Northstar). I've loosened the large, round locking housing that secures the motor to the pump. It appears the motor should now just slide...

You didnt mention removing the impeller before trying to "slide it out" Remove the impeller and diffuser first before trying to seperate the two pieces. Lock onto the rear shaft with a 7/16th" wrench while rotating the impeller counter clockwise until remoed. Now you can seperate the two halves.

Just replaced motor overheating and shutting off.

service factor must match old motor ! motor must match impeller hp rating ! .. get the numbers off the impeller and search it on the web.. bet your motor is too small.. the easy fix ? buy the right impeller for your motor.. the things you need when buying a impeller are as fallows.. your motors hp and SF .. thats the service factor ! if the voltage is 120 v the motor set on 240 it will jump back and forth between start and run.. it will make a click ..click ..click noise .USE A VOLT METER. I smell a northstar a real pain of a pump.. REMEMBER TO BUY AMERICAN PRODUCTS (PLEASE) AND SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL POOL PUMP REPAIR GUY..
