If this happened after updating your firmware, the Sansa FAQ from here http://www.sansa.com/support/sansa_e200/faqs says try this -

03. "Load image failed" appears after updating e200 firmware Applies to the following Operating Systems:

  1. Windows XP, Vista
This error may be caused by the firmware failing to load or the file system is corrupted.
STEP 1 – Reset the player
  1. Press and hold the Power button for approximately 30 seconds.
  2. Turn the player back on.
If the error persists, proceed to steps 2 and 3.
STEP 2 – Connect the player in Recovery Mode
  1. Turn off the player.
  2. Slide the Hold/Lock switch on top of the player so an orange color is showing.
  3. Press and hold the REC button and connect the device to the computer.
  4. A message will appear on the device display screen confirming the connection and a 16MB partition will be viewable in My Computer.
  5. Release the REC button.
STEP 3 – Download and update the firmware
  1. Download the firmware from the Sansa Forum.
  2. Open the zip file
  3. Extract all the firmware files to the 16MB-FORMAT drive.
  4. Disconnect the player.
  5. Slide the Hold switch to the unlock position.
  6. Turn on the player

SOURCE: sansa e200 load main image failed

I have also encountered the same problem. "Load main image failed Switch to Recovery Mode" What I did was: 1. Download and install the Firmware Updater Software from SanDisk "http://www.sandisk.com/Assets/File/Downloads/firmware/SansaUpdaterInstall.exe" 2. Bring up the Sansa into recovery mode by: -Switch the Hold Switch to Locked Position -Hold (and continue to hold) the Record button -Press the menu button (may a need an extra hand) while plugging in the USB Cable to the computer 3. After the Sansa is in the Recovery Mode saying: "... Enter 2.0 MSD" (Means that it is currently in MSD) 4. Right Click on the Sansa Firmware Updater icon in the System Tray (near the clock) and select "Update Now" 5. Once the dialogue box appears, DO NOT SELECT AMERICA, but chose Japan and Update. 6. Follow it's procedures till the end. -The screen will tell you to unplug then press finish. BUT WAIT! -I press the finish button first, then right click on the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon on the System Tray and properly stopped the USB device. -After stopping (and unplugging), the Sansa's screen continues with the rebooting process and finishes the update. -It will automatically restart, but the Hold Switch is still on Lock. I must then turn off the Hold Switch and press Menu to turn on the Sansa. -So far, it seems to work. In summary, I think the "America" download site doesn't have the latest firmware to fix this problem, but the Japan site does. Next, the improper unplugging of the device may prevent the update process to complete. I've seen from other forums that people who had prematurely (improperly) stopped the updating process.

My e260 is saying "load main image failed switch to recovery mode" what that means

Load main image failed, this is a firmware error, (this does not have software like a computer)

Recovery mode, the player tried to recover from the error.

The player has firmware updates that where put out by the MFG because of problems.

You have to read the manual, carefully and follow it to the T.
because you need to update the firmware on the player.

This is there website.

Sansa player wont turn on

To get it in recovery mode. Put the Hold switch into the lock position. Then hold REC and Power for about 10 seconds.

You need to hook up your cable after that and you can reset the firmware.

Sansa e200 won't turn on

Load main image failed refers to a bad firmware file on the device. You can download and run this recovery tool from the SanDisk website. http://www.sandisk.com/Assets/File/Downloads/firmware/e200fw01.00.12.exe Best of Luck.
