Are you running 32 or 64 bit system ???

Make sure the video driver supports windows 7, 32 or 64 bit.

The video card can sure run fine on windows xp but not in windows 7 as it is a totaly different system.

The mainboard has a 1 x AGP 8X slot.

So now you maybe has to find a video card that supports windows 7

Try also to download a manual.

It sounds like a driver/software issue. When you ran the Princeton VL173 on XP you probably had all the correct software for your video card and the correct drivers to support your video output. When you changes OS to Windows 7, the XP drivers are no longer in place. My best guess is that you need to find and install the correct drivers for your system video and for your video card that are Windows 7 compatible. The old XP drivers will not work in Windows 7.

I am running XP with a Princeton VL173. It works great. I identified the correct video drivers for my system and installed them. My video card is nVidia 8800GT. I downloaded and installed the latest software from nVidia and installed it. It runs like a champ.

Several months ago my display died. It was just blank -- black. I tried using a power supply (AC adapter) from an old HP printer that died, and it worked! The plugs were identical, and the power output profiles were very nearly identical. It has been rinnung great for many months now.

You need to installed correct driver for your VIDEO CARD also, right now it may be using Microsoft generic video card driver.
You also need to set the PC video resolution to the native resolution of this monitor: 1024 x 768 @60Hz.

You need to set your PC video resolution to the native resolution of this monitor, which is 1440x900 @60Hz. Mkae sure to to have correct video card driver installed and may also need the driver for this monitor if the native resolution is not listed.

Did you install correct video driver (win 7) for your video card. Monitor does not really care what OS you are running otherwise I will go crazy try to get drivers for all the monitors I have to repair, http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
I assume you have already try this monitor iwth other PC, and also try this PC with other monitor.

If your Vista still work, go to the control panel> administrative tools> computer management > disk management > create an additional partition (larger then my documents folde size)
Move your files to this partition then install xp.

A few tips

• Make sure there xp drivers for each componenet
• Use driver magician and find xp drivers (check the pc mfg site and download all xp drivers and put them on this partiton too.
• Use a partition program (dos) and format the vista partition and the hidden partition that vista creates or xp won't go in properly

Your problem is that the correct video driver is not installed and therefore cannot use all the video RAM.(the XP version of the video driver won't work with Win98).
When you adjust to True color at a higher resolution it drops to a lower resolution because it has insufficent video RAM, but you will get a higher screen resolution at a 16 bit color because it requires less memory (video RAM).
Install the Win98 driver for the graphics card and then it can use the full video RAM at a higher screen resolution with 32 bit color.

The resolution issue you are describing sounds like a video card driver issue. You must determine what video card or chipset you have and apply the appropriate driver. The Acer x193w monitor is plug and play, it will display whatever the OS sends to it provided it is within it display range and 1440x900 is definitely within that range.
