Compaq Presario M2000 - Fan not running

I've opened up the laptop and checked the connections to the fan. Seem to be fine. Nothing looks melted around the area too.
The m2000 keeps shutting down after about 30 mins of work. I guess this has to do with the heat that is not dissipating.
I've tried "speedfan" .. not much use as it doesnt detect any fan anyway.   Any idea how to check when the fan is the problem. Couldn't see any settings in the BIOS too.

Any idea how to check when the fan is the problem?

It appears your CPU is overheating and is shutting down.
Does the fan spin at all when the laptop is switched on?
The fan could be faulty, if it does not spin freely.
To test the fan, try removing it and connect it to a 12 volt DC power supply, if the fan spins fast then it is OK and the fault is on the laptop, possibly the power supply to the fan. In this case you need professional help.
If the fan appears OK then the problem could be insufficient too old heat sink compound between the CPU and the heatsink. You will need to remove the fan and heatsink and the old compound and put some fresh heatsink compound on the CPU/heatsink and reassemble the fan/heatsink.

Compaq presario m2000 imediately shuts down after

Check for blocked air passages - vacuum out the fan ports. (Don't use canned air - you'll just blow the dust inside, where it will act as an insulator and help things overheat.) Make sure the fans are actually turning. If there's any mold growing inside, that could cause the problem too.And for more contact http://tinyurl.com/m7ghqz

Broken fan on compaq

don't keep running it until you replace the fan. Look for one on ebay or around the web. It is shutting down because of heat. A $20 fan could cost you your whole laptop if you keep running it.

Presario m2000 just shuts down while in use

Usually this problem occurs due to a thermal[overheating] problem. Make sure all vents are free when running the laptop. You can also fix this by upgrading the fan & buying a laptop cooling pad that sits underneath the computer when in use. Hope this helps & please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.

Compaq presaria m2000

Fan is controlled by a temp sensor on Mobo and by CPU. I hard wired my "dead" fan to a constant 5V power supply (off the battery bus) and now it runs constantly, doesnt bother me and I have yet to lock up. My CPU cover actually discolored and warped because my fanless CPU got so hot!

Dead laptop

Check the ac adapter is the proper one for that laptop. Check the power jack is not damaged or loose. let laptop site without battery or power for a few hours. remove battery and retry power. try another ac adapter if that doesn't work, you may have a reset button but not likely to solve the problem. sounds like motherboard is damaged, or something blew.
