Here's the manual:
29869GE2 Digital Answering Machine
You will need to set a security code. When you're away you can call your home phone and enter the code to retrieve your messages. Hope this helps.

How do I retrieve messages when I am away from home? Model # EXA15580

Remote access away from home first you must enter the PIN code: 1) Enter the Answer Setup menu, and then the Security Code submenu 2) Enter a two-digit PIN code (01-99) using the number keypad (0-9). 3)Press OK
You can operate your answering system from a remote location using any touch-tone telephone. 1) Call your telephone number and wait for the system to answer. If the answering system is off, it will answer after about 10 rings and sounds a series of beeps. 2) During the greeting message (or a series of beeps when the answering system is off), press 0 and enter your PIN code within 2 seconds 3)listen to the instructions from there (to play incoming messages, press zero-two)

How do I retrieve my voice mail when I'm away from home?

Go to the base unit.
scroll to the answering machine option.
Under there is a setting for your security key.

you can read what's there, or change it to your own two digit code.

when you call in, during the message, enter that two digit code and it'll go into messages. There's a "toll saver" mode so that the machine answers after two rings instead of 4, so that if you call and it rings 3 times, you know there's no new messages.

Can't retrieve messages from home answering machine when away

Indeed... YES Wrinkles3,

I can help you a couple of ways...!!

First and FOREMOST...

Go in NOW and edit your PERSONAL & PRIVATE
INFORMATION...

Right now every WACKO on the internet
Knows your NUMBER & INTERNET identity...
(and probably your DEFAULT "pin" code)
((
You just gave everything ELSE needed))

With very MUCH ease I could enter your home phone...
MONITOR your rooms... Take your messages... (etc.).
((
Find your Name, address & track family members))

You are seconds away from some
SERIOUS IDENTITY theft issues...
Never post personal information on the internet
>> (seriously).

Generally ...
You need to clear off that INFORMATION
and get paranoid... EDIT it off NOW...!!

On to your question: Your Owners Manual
(please ... oh please HAVE a REAL pin number).

Your page 31: tells you (& the WORLD)... How to
operate YOUR PHONE:

Uniden EXS 9950 Owner Manual Remote Access Away From Home

ELSE
call UnidenDirect at 1-800-297-1023 (your page 36)
7:00 am to 7:00 pm CST
Uniden EXS 9950 Owner Manual Specifications Base Unit

Pretty please... a little caution would go a long way..!!

Remote message retrieval

When you first installed your GE Digital Messaging System, you heard the code that was auto set for it. Once you are out and away from home, phone home and during the answering machine promp press # and then the promps will ask you for your 'pass word [code]. Please be careful as messages deleted by you, you may not beable to retrieve them. This machine doesn't run by cassette tapes.
~ hope the above helps.

Messages from out of town

First you have to set a security code. Program the secutity code at the machine by holding the Stop/Set key and the Next key down at the same time and follow the voice prompts. Once you set the security code, (it will be a 3 digit code) when you call home while away while your greeting is playing key in the 3 digit code (no star, no pound key, just the 3 numbers in the code) and it will take you to the message menu. Test it while you are at home with a mobile phone. Hope this helps.
