I have a Sony Wega KDF-E50A10, A few days ago it started to shut itself off (picture and sound). The power light blinks, The revs a little, and after a minute it comes back on, but just for 2 minutes then the cycle repeats itself. The red lamp has never come on, indicating the buld should be replaced. What is wrong with this set? I purchased it in 2006.

Hi, Lamp of TV getting weaker and requires replacement. This shut off by itself will increase day by day until you put new lamp in TV. Always Buy Sony original lamp and avoid aftermarket/ cheap lamp for TV safety.

From what it seems in your question... the problem has already went away... However, I actually know about this. There is a fuse inside the tv near the power button called B-3a... If you replace that fuse it should help fix permanently

No Picture or sound

The lamp cover door was not secured tightly. Door does not "push" shut easily. Got a little rough with it and latched it shut, then the tv worked fine.

If the lamp is new it could be the ballast the one is supply high voltage for the lamp you can order that ballast from Sony
Check the lamp if is not damage any where

Hi,
You need to replace Lamp only as existing lamp is weak in result and causing such symptoms.
Ballast supply is fine and working.
