Problem with mobo upgrade ... From Intel CPU to AMD CPU

Compaq Presario SR2170NX "Desktop" 2006 made? or older.
push power button for 10 seconds and release? yet, the intel reset.?
all batteries are no good that old. COIN CELL DEAD.its DUE !
and hdd bad.,psu dead, fans must blow.
1,2,3 cured.
if desperate get a shop to fix it, or find Hardware savvy geek?
lots of things (chiP) inside are DOE EOL now, zero support like sound

NOw THE CAUSEs OF RELIC ***** a list:
1: PSU BAD, bench test it ask.
PSU has 2 power cables to MOBO never just 1, 24 and 4 pin.
if not connected both the CPU is now dead.
2: PSU OVERLOADED BY SHORTED MODELS CONNECTED.
3: CPU PINS BENT IN SOCKET OR CPU.
4: GPU card problem remove it. use VGA main.
5: remove all sata and PCI devices.
6: test 1 DDR2 ram 1 at a time in slot 1

test the mobo with only 1 stick of ram and nothing else.
use the VGA jack and working monitor most this old too are DEAD.

Unfortunatly your still running low end CPU power and low end agp graphics. Your going to pay 150-200 just for a fair PCIe/AGP HD/3D VC. If $200 doesnt hurt (and this is the lowest price best option), then might I suggest Mobo/CPU/RAM for around $200 that would do the trick and allow for future upgrades. You might also need a power supply. I just built one less than 3 weeks ago for a friend and it fairs against my own gaming comp.

the short answer is YES you need the additional power to the 4 pin molex.

Post your power supply brand and specs along with the copmplete spec of your PC and I'll be able to give some further advice regarding best option for you

Look for socket A processors and ignore the XXXX+ and focus on the XXXXMHz rating (the MoBo's manufacturer's support site will give you the max processor your Board will handle). Since you mention that your MoBo is 4 to 5 years old, you'll probably better serve yourself to replace the MoBo and processor (you'll be able to upgrade to a much better/faster processor by upgrading both, and shouldn't cost that much more), and probably be happier with the result. You may want/need to upgrade your Power supply while you are at it too.

I SEE YOU MENTIONED NOTHING ABOUT INSTALLING ANY DRIVERS FOR THE HD'S DID YOU?

put on right pins pw on mobo should work

Had the same problem on a few motherboards, check your capacitors very closely. If they are rounded or split on top they are bad. You can change the capacitors with new ones to fix your problem but it often ends up costing as much as buying a new board.
