I fixed the problem with AMD mobo powering itself after 10 or so seconds. I had to cut the plastic nubs ( 4 of them ) on the yellow plastic retainer around the CPU. This allows the Thermaltake heatsink/fan assy. to sit lower and make contact with the CPU die. Note to Lolita ... Yes that was the problem ... 1/32" does make a diff...The PC now runs.... My new problem is ... Since this is a mobo upgrade Intel to AMD I followed the Microsoft upgrade proceedure (Article ID 824125) which states with the old system running ... in insert the XP cdrom and let autorun start ... click on Upgrade ... etc ... follow the instructions till the sustem reboots ... powerdown the PC .. swap the mobo ... power on and let the Upgrade to continue ... That all work until the Second reboot ... XP started loading and just when the XP logo goes away ... Blue Screen of Death ... Stop: 0x0000007E (0xC00000005, 0xF775C750, 0xF79F430, 0xF79F712C) Any Ideas? Is this a problem because of was Intel now AMD? Thanks in advance Dale G.
OK, here's what I did in the same case: After installing new motherboard, I booted from Windows XP CD and typed "R" to run the Recovery Console. I went into Windows\System32\Drivers and deleted every file whose name started with "Intel". Then I booted windows normally, it loaded and happily detected the new hardware (including new CPU). If you do not have windows CD, you can try booting in safe mode (it worked for me) and delete the files. But this might make the new hardware detection a bit less "clean", though it should still work OK.
Hi dale, itsnot a good thing when you see the blue screen of death, cause recent changes hardware normaly maybeif you have changed from intel to amd using mobo and all parts are amd now , maybe if you reinstalled your operating system the new hardware that is installed will accept you software cheers steve good luck
